North Korea and weapons of mass destruction
On October 16, 2002, U.S. officials announced that North Korea admitted to running a clandestine nuclear weapons program, in violation of several treaties.
Pakistan, a nuclear-weapon country, supplied key technology and information to North Korea in exchange for missiles to use in the India-Pakistan conflict around 1997, according to U.S. intelligence officials.
Before the revelation, the George W. Bush had named North Korea part of an "Axis of Evil".
