KTFO-TV Channel 41 or UPN41 is the UPN affiliate in the Tulsa, Oklahoma DMA. The station is owned by Clear Channel Television in a duopoly with KOKI Fox 23.

History

KTFO began operations in 1981 as an independent station. KTFO is the fifth television station in Tulsa after KWTX (now KTUL) and KOKI. Channel 41 aired In 1995, KTFO began serving as the Tulsa area's UPN affiliate.

KTFO's programming schedule as a independent station and as a UPN affiliate consists of some morning childrens programs, some first run syndicated shows including comedies in the early evening, off network sitcoms, drama shows, plus older movies on weekends.

KTFO's future as a network affiliate is up in the air as CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. made the decision to merge UPN and The WB. The new network to be called The CW Television Network will feature programming from both the UPN and WB networks. The CW will air network programming six nights a week adopting The WB's Sunday-Friday schedule compared to UPN's five nights a week (Monday-Friday).

KTFO and numerous other current UPN and WB affiliates will make the decision to switch to The CW which will leave one of two stations in many markets (not including those that air both WB and UPN) becoming an independent either for the first time or once again. A decision as to whether the network affiliation will remain on KTFO or move to KWBT will be made in the spring. The only exception are WB affiliates owned by Tribune Broadcasting which have already made ten-year agreements to air The CW's programming on their current WB affiliates including WGN-TV 9 Chicago, KTLA 5 Los Angeles and WPIX 11 New York.

News

KTFO as an independent station did have produce local news until it affiliate with UPN. In 2002, KTFO began airing local news once again when sister station KOKI began FOX23 News. KTFO only airs FOX23 News at 9 when a NFL/MLB game or movie runs past 9:00pm. This is a procedure that is followed by many Fox/UPN duopolies in the U.S.
