My talk page

Thanks Maximus for reverting my page back after the troll vandalized it. I have been working hard to abide by the rules and get along with others lately and am going better. Again, thanks for the help! User:ChrisDJackson

Hi, sorry, i hope this is the right place to put this, but I noticed you fixed Poker after someone removed it, are you able to do that ebcause you are an admin, or can anyone roll back pages? Thanks for the reply, sorry, one more question, when I click on the button "your signature with timestamp" (2nd from right), it doesnt seem to do anything, is there a way to do it manually? -Tyir

Please be more considerate to other users. Calling people "stupid" is uncalled for and unacceptable. Maximus Rex 01:37, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Yes, you're right. I get caught up in my rage sometimes. I'll change my comment to be gentler.

You're just going to willy-nilly unblock a Michael proxy even though three of us actually blocked it? Why not let it last for 24 hours, or are you willing to let Michael run roughshod over Wikipedia? RickK 04:47, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

A compromise - only 6 hrs. If you don't like it, do what you will :) Dysprosia 04:51, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

So we just like Michael post here because he happens to be using an AOL proxy? What about the hard ban? RickK 04:53, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I was wondering about this too -- I though perhaps I was too hasty in blocking the IP... Is there a clear policy either way about AOL proxies and the like? -- BCorr ¤ Брайен 04:55, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Thank you

I thought RK and rickK were the same user, apparently not? anyways thanks. Sam Spade 04:07, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

VfD

Please don't add items to vfd without listing a reason. Doing so borders on vandalism. Anthony DiPierro 04:13, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Is that directed at me, Anthony. Would you care to point out what I've listed on Vfd without a reason? Maximus Rex 04:14, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)
He did list a reason. Ever since you started your career here by adding Bill Gates's social security number to the first paragraph of the entry on Gates, I've seen you as a borderline vandal, ADP. Moncrief, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hey, I more ISP addresses than the user:Micheal but ill stop vandelizing ok?

Thanks for reverting my user page when it was blanked! :-) My first user page vandalism....makes me feel special. ;) I appreciate your watching out, and I'll try to keep an eye on yours in the future: happy editing, Jwrosenzweig 16:07, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hello, just received your message. I deleted my userpage and talkpage because I decided to leave the project. Goodbye and may you have Peace Profound, Optim 19:01, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)

The below was accidentally placed on the wrong page, Talk:Maximus Rex, by 68.45.50.61. Pakaran. 17:20, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hello,

I was using your article on Roman currency for a research project, and was wondering how i would go about properly citing it in my bibiography. I can be reached at chronicallybored@comcast.net

You won the contest!

Okay, so female and Canadian were easy. How the heck did you and Angela figure out my location? Either you have my IP address, or you cheated and googled my username to find some other sites where I've been less private.

Name the article you'll have me rewrite. moink 21:45, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I'll do Jan Hendrik Schön, though maybe not right this second. (I'm using Wikipedia to avoid doing homework today, but it's starting to get late...). The way you got my IP was pretty clever, you must have looked at a lot of edits to find that one! moink 22:22, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Other than the fact that it would be much better with a picture, and if I knew when the guy was born, what do you think of Jan Hendrik Schön now? I'll keep working on it until you release me from your service. moink 07:37, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Yeah, it was fun! Great thing to do at 3:30 in the morning instead of my homework which is due in 6 hours. moink 08:47, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Oh, thanks! I'm more than happy to lend my time to it; I wouldn't want to disappoint anyone who supported my adminship, especially you. :) Good work on the Gallic Emperors, by the way. Cheers, -- Hadal 10:05, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Richard Genovese

Your statement that the existence of the Richard Genovese article is due to his association with me is not only false but ridiculous. What is your basis for this? --Daniel C. Boyer 21:47, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

[1]
The article existed long before I was ever mentioned in it. Wik added the information that I was his contemporary; though I have participated in some joint projects with him (most notably, we both have work in Par*faite) it is absolutely false and incredible (based on the information in the article and what I know personally) that such projects are the most important things he's done. One edit by someone with an axe to grind, absent anything whatsoever to back it up, is not the same as evidence. And indeed, this is not how it was even put. We are contemporaries only in the very rough sense that we are both alive at this moment (he's considerably older than I), but are we going to list in every biographical article anyone whose life overlapped the subject's to the slightest degree? There would have to be a lot more than this to shore up this case. --Daniel C. Boyer 01:46, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Trolls in the dungeon!

I blocked Bird and his incarnations for 72 hours. (Can't I even take ONE day off from Wikipedia without the place falling apart? *sigh* ;-) What else do you need me to do? --Uncle Ed 19:09, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thanks

Maximus - thanks for combatting bird's vandalism on my user page. Hopefully, he'll confine himself to there and stay away from the articles. →Raul654 07:03, Mar 11, 2004 (UTC)

.... and for your help on vandalisme at fy wikipedia this night. Ellywa 08:37, 11 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi - you need to be careful on speedy deletions - an anon had blanked a page on VfD and added a speedy deletions tag - you then deleted the article. However the article wasn't a candidate for speedy deletion - you need to check the history before you delete - the article was James S. Baker. Thanks. Secretlondon 12:24, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)~

Hi Maximus! Arent we supposed to direct anons to the sandbox and warn them before blocking? Muriel 01:57, 14 Mar 2004 (UTC)

TDT

Re: TDT: heh, I knew I was forgetting something! --Chuq 07:33, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Please explain why the external link to the Pipe Dreams show is not relevant to PVC; it is a travelling exhibit of PVC art. There might be other alternatives, such as mentioning in the article that PVC is used in art and using the Pipe Dreams show (or any other show you can find where PVC is used, if you think it's a problem that I participated in this show) as a footnote, or another solution of your choosing, but I do think it's relevant in general that there has been some use of PVC in art. Do you have another way to deal with this? --Daniel C. Boyer 15:02, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Read the article compleltely and come back to me and tell me honestly that the external link to that art contest you entered is relevant to the content of the page. Maximus Rex 06:08, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I have edited the page now so as to add mention of use of PVC in art in article without giving it undue importance. Do you have a problem with this situation as it stands now? --Daniel C. Boyer 18:28, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)
You did not answer my question about having a problem with the new editing which leaves me confused as to why you removed the Pipe Dreams link. --Daniel C. Boyer 14:08, 16 Apr 2004 (UTC)

My edits are perfectly valid. Putting the 'Leet' page in 1337 seems appropriate. Who's to say what's vandalism, anyhow, hmm? If I went, 'asdfasdfdsgfasgadsfg' all over your talk page, one could consider that vandalism, though I could, given the right situation, counter that with a valid reason. Everyone has their own definition of vandalism -- ours aren't the same. Perfectly valid edits shouldn't be reverted based on just one's opinion on the topic of vandalism. And that's all I have to say. Have a nice day. :)

Doing it once might be cute. Three times, where each time it is reverted, is vandalism. Have a nice day. Maximus Rex 06:08, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I seem to have accidentally recreated the Looseys article by vfding it. I suggest that since our friend Jonathan recreated it once, let's just let it go through vfd this time. Isomorphic 06:00, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Ok. Maximus Rex 06:08, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)

User:Maximus Rex put this paragraph in History of Europe:

Also, in 1835, an uprising of German Afrikaners attacked the Dutch army regiment stationed at the town of Neu Scheveningen. This lead to all-out war on the African continent, lodged between the Dutch, English, and French against the Germans and Italians. Eventually, the peace was restored; the Germans were given a geographically-separate colony in which to live, near present-day Lesotho; it was named New Saxony. The war was officially ended in 1837, with the Treaty of Tripoli. The Germans eventually separated, politically, from their homeland, and set up a kingdom. But the new king was eaten by a lion, and the Kingdom of New Saxony was once again swallowed up by the Dutch. No warfare, suprisingly, took place on European soil, and the treaty held for many years.

It obviously doesn't belong there so I reverted the change but I thought that maybe this information could be useful in History of Africa. Kpalion 10:31, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I see you also realize User:Eon is User:Cautious in disguise. Does that mean his Eon votes on Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship are invalid? — Jor (Talk) 14:56, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)

There seems to be active discussion on Wikipedia talk:Requests_for_adminship about this. RFA is supposed to be about rough consensus and not numerical voting, in any event. Maximus Rex 22:04, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion standards

I noticed that a couple of articles I added to the list earlier (Scott Ross Schaefer, Growling Dog Productions and associated images) haven't been deleted yet, though others I listed later have almost immediately... Are only blatantly obvious vandalism and nonsense pages candidates, but not blatantly obvious vanity and self-promotion pages? No reasonable wikipedian could disagree on these--one is of a high schooler who likes to skateboard and get drunk, and the other is his video production "company" whose library consists of one skating video. If it is the case that policy is against speedy deletions in those cases, however, I'll move them to vfd and list all such articles directly there in the future. Thanks! Postdlf 22:10 17 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hanpuk

If I may ask, since Hanpuk is disputing the allegation - what evidence do we have that Hanpuk is one of the Richardchilton sock puppets? --Michael Snow 16:54, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Do you know which identity said so, and was there a specific admission to Hanpuk? I've seen the admissions regarding Lance and Hector, but since Hanpuk is denying it on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment, more proof would be helpful. IRC chat logs, if anybody kept them. --Michael Snow 19:10, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for providing the logs. My evaluation of it as evidence - it's fair to accept that t0xic/mandel/ErnestMandel is the root person behind Richardchilton and his alter egos, whatever his real name may be. That's based on familiarity with the situation and claim of responsibility. But I have to conclude that as to Hanpuk specifically, this is not solid proof. The list of sock puppets is included verbatim in a statement quoted from User:PMelvilleAustin (PMA), who I'm guessing got it from VeryVerily's allegations to begin with. I'm sure it would suit Richardchilton's purposes to have people believe he has even more sock puppets than he actually does, so even if Hanpuk is not him, he has little motivation to deny it in this instance. Of course, if Hanpuk is him, it may also suit his purposes to deny this later under any one of his identities.

That leaves the question as VeryVerily's word against Hanpuk's. There may be more circumstantial evidence, as VeryVerily says, but I haven't the time or interest to pursue that. So I'll keep the allegation in mind, but consider it unproven (not disproved) for now. --Michael Snow 15:17, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Repeated Vandalism

Hello,

There've been repeated acts of vandalism of the Nigeria and Yoruba pages by either a collection of users or (more likely) a single user operating from several machines, all of which have involved the insertion of factually erroneous claims and irrelevant information into articles, and, increasingly, insults directed towards my person as well (the "Omo Ale" inserted in the this version of the Nigeria article by 64.56.232.174 is Yoruba for "bastard." The use of the very same term by [[Special:Contributions/66.185.84.80|66.185.84.80 is a giveway that both IP addresses refer to the same person, YorubaMan).

I've made multiple complaints about this issue on both the Special:RC patrol and Special:Vandalism in progress pages, but I've received absolutely no response whatsoever from any of the sysops. It's almost as if nobody can be bothered enough about the content of the pages in question to actually do something about my complaints. Before completely folding my hands and giving up, I thought I'd try to contact one sysop directly and see what happens.

I'll try to take care of this. silsor 21:30, Apr 23, 2004 (UTC)

I named all the sound clips I upped for samples of music from the United States in the same format, but I don't know why the links don't work. Fair enough, I did not realise that existed. My apologies.

It's generally considered bad form to change a British English term into American English, even if the word is somewhat rare... :-) (The OED claims that 'publically' is a recognised alternative spelling to 'publicly' that's been around at least since the 1920s.)

Ready for Admin?

Howdy, Maximus. I wanted to ask your opinion as to whether or not I'm ready for adminship. I thought to ask you because you seem to be a pretty accomplished Wikipedian. I realise I've only been a registered member for little more than a month and a half; but I have very close to 1000 edits, and I'm the primary author of several (in my opinion) nice articles such as Ron Brown, Henry Lee (criminologist), Kid Gleason, and Jimmy McHugh, among many others. I've also made varying contributions to a lot of nice articles. I'm a regular voter at VfD, and regular RC patroller. I'm quickly becoming quite the Wikipediholic; I figure if you're gonna be an addict, why not go full-blown with it. So... opinion? blankfaze | &#9835 01:46, 25 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Hi blankfaze. I would recommend waiting another month or so. There is still a lot that can be done without being an admin. Many of the people on WP:RFA will think that a month and a half is too early. I hope this doesn't discourage you, keep up the good work. Maximus Rex 02:04, 25 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
No, no discouragement at all. I figured this was the case, but there's no harm in asking. I just get so frustrated when I spend hours on WP and have to wait for admins to do all these things that I'd like to see done. But no, I'm far too addicted to WP to quit now.  :-P blankfaze | &#9835 02:09, 25 May 2004 (UTC) P.S. thanks (duh).[reply]
