Syrus Truesdale, known in Japan as Sho Marufuji (丸藤 翔 Marufuji Shō), is a fictional character in the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX in Japan).

15-year old Syrus is the weaker younger brother of Zane Truesdale (Ryo Marufuji), who is in the Obelisk Blue dormitory. He is in the Slifer Red (Osiris Red) dormitory along with Chumley Huffington (Hayato Maeda) and the main character, Jaden Yuki (Judai Yuki). Syrus manages something what is almost impossible, he gets lower grades then Jaden. Syrus is a decent duelist but has a great deal of self doubt, hindering his performance. He is later promoted to the Ra Yellow dorm after he defeats Kochō Ran, an Obelisk Blue student, in a duel.

Syrus' appearances are numerous throughout the series but he only duels four times.

His first duel is against Jaden in order to train him for their Tag Battle match that would take place due to their being in the forbidden dorm to save Alexis. Jaden starts with Elemental Hero Avian in attack mode and a face-down card, from which Syrus summons Patroid. Overlooking Patroid's ability, which would have enabled him to view Jaden's face-down card, he assaults Jaden, who stops the assault with Negate Attack. Jaden then deals a strong blow to Syrus with his Elemental Hero Sparkman and Syrus then draws Power Bond, the card Zane had forbidden Syrus from using due to its inherent flaw and Syrus' inability to cope with it. Syrus then fuses Gyroid and Steamroid with Polymerization to summon Steam Gyroid and he attacks. Jaden, slightly impressed, summons Elemental Hero Thunder Giant, whose ability destroys Syrus' Steam Gyroid, and depletes the remainder of Syrus' Life Points. When Jaden realizes that Syrus had Power Bond in his hand, he wonders why Syrus did not play it, since it would have made Steam Gyroid a 4400 attack point monster. Syrus reveals his brother's sealing of the card and this would eventually lead to Jaden's duel with Zane.

His duel with Jaden against the Paradox Brothers (Meikyū Brothers in the English manga and Japanese versions) is a slipshod affair for at least the first half of the duel, as Syrus manages to fall into every single trap that the brothers set for Jaden and Syrus. First of which, he forgets the special ability of the brothers' Kazejin and attacks with Steam Gyroid, whose attack points drop to zero due to Kazejin's ability. Later, he attempts to destroy the Fairy Meteor Crush card equipped to the brothers' Gate Guardian with Mystical Space Typhoon but it is blocked by Judgment of Anubis which negates the Mystical Space Typhoon and destroys Jaden's Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster. However, Syrus gains his wits back after Jaden gives him some praise and he summons Drilloid, which removes the Defense Wall that was acting as a shield for the Gate Guardian. He then plays Shield Crush, which destroys the Gate Guardian. At the final stages of the duel, Syrus summons UFOroid and fuses it with Jaden's Elemental Hero Tempest using Power Bond to create UFOroid Fighter, which has attack points equal to the combined total of the monsters that compose it (4000 in this case). Its attack points are then doubled to 8000 thanks to Power Bond and it attacks the brothers' Dark Guardian, which, despite its ability to be immune to destruction in battle, does not prevent overflow damage, and the brothers are defeated.

In the second season, Syrus is given an opportunity to advance into the Ra Yellow dorm should he defeat Kochō Ran, an Obelisk Blue student. Feeling that he should not shoulder his brother's legacy, Syrus gives his Power Bond card to Chazz Princeton before the start of the duel (he reclaims it afterwards). Syrus begins with a strong move, destroying Ran's defense position monster with Shield Crush and accomplishing a direct attack with Steamroid. Ran recovers and plays Insect Princess and with numerous cards, puts her weaker Insect Sub-Type monsters on Syrus' side of the field. She then uses her Insect Princess to destroy them and due to the special ability of the Insect Princess, it increases in strength. Syrus, in the meanwhile, makes direct attacks using Submarineroid and sets up the field for his Fusion Summon. Eventually, Ran places an Insect monster on Syrus' field that negates any Spell Card that he plays. When attacking for the win with her Insect Princess, Syrus halts its attack with a Trap Card that switches it to defense mode and forces Ran to discard a card from her hand. Syrus then plays Vehicroid Construction Zone, which acts as a Polymerization card for Vehicroid monsters and furthermore cannot be negated. Syrus then summons Super Vehicroid - Jumbo Drill and with its Fairy Meteor Crush-esque ability, it destroys the defense-position Insect Princess and finishes Ran off.

In episode 55, Syrus develops a rivalry with Tyranno Kenzan over which of the two has the right to call Jaden "big brother." They constantly argue and fight, prompting their repetitive seperation by Alexis Rhodes. This rivalry continues past Syrus' upgrade to Ra Yellow in the following episode, finally ending in episode 64, when the two duel to settle matters once and for all.

Early on in the duel, Kenzan inflicts heavy damage to Syrus' life points with his dinosaurs, but Syrus sets up an elaborate combination of cards that lock down his opponent in an infinite loop. Kenzan's Ultimate Tyranno constantly attacks Syrus' Decoyroid, which is revived over and over again through various methods, causing Cyber Summon Blaster to wear down Kenzan. Before the last blow is dealt, Kenzan discovers that Syrus went without food or sleep to search for the missing Jaden. As a result, he saw Syrus' devotion to their friend, and did not activate his Jurassic Impact card, which would have wiped both players out simultaneously Syrus and Zane use machine type monsters because they're known as genius's everywhere. ===Monster Cards===
