Hackney is bordered by the boroughs of Waltham Forest to the north east, Haringey to the north, Islington to the west, City of London to the south west, Tower Hamlets to the south and Newham to the south east.

Hackney is one of the borough which feature in London's bid for the 2012 Olympics.
