Brigadier General Jose de Jesús Gutiérrez Rebollo was appointed Mexico's top-ranking drug interdiction officer in 1996 [1]. Early in 1997, he was fired from his post after an investigation showed that he had received bribes from the Juarez drug cartel [2].
