Pangaea (from the Greek for, "all lands") is the name Alfred Wegener used to refer to the major land mass (or supercontinent) on earth during the Mesozoic period, before the ongoing process of plate tectonics separated the continents. It is thought that the Earth has had several supercontinents similar to Pangea, and that they have repeatedly broken apart and recoalesced over hundreds of millions of years.
