Adam Przeworski

Adam Przeworski (born 1934) is a Polish-American professor of political sciences. One of the main important theorists and analysers of democratic societies, theory of democracy and political economy, he is currently a full professor at the Wilf Family Department of Politics of New York University.

Born in 1934 in Warsaw, Poland, Przeworski graduated from the Warsaw University in 1961. Soon afterwards he moved to USA, where in 1966 he received his PhD at the Northwestern University. He taught at the University of Chicago, where he was awarded with the title of Martin A. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor. He also held visiting appointments in India, Chile, France (among others at the American University of Paris), Germany, Spain, and Switzerland. Since 1991 Przeworski is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 2001 he received the Woodrow Wilson Prize. Throughout his life, he authored 13 books and numerous articles.
