Template:WPCMC

This page is for discussion on what the WikiProject Comics Collaboration of the Month should be. Anyone is free to contribute, but please don't nominate or support an option unless you are willing to help it improve if it is elected as the Month's collaboration. Anyone can nominate an article and can vote for the nominated articles. Every second Tuesday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for a Month to potential contributors. Template:ComicsCollab

The candidate with the most support as at noon on 1 March 2006 UTC will become the next Collaboration of the Month. The current time is 03:02, October 22, 2024.

Purpose of the collaboration

Currently, it is believed the purpose of the collaboration should be to work up a comics-related article to featured article status. The articles should either be:

  • On a major aspect of the medium.
  • The main article on a country's specific form.
  • A major character.
  • A major publisher.
  • A highly influential creator.
  • A major comic strip.
  • An influential work.

We will also look at those articles felt to be near enough to featured article status already such that a collaboration is likely to bring it up to FA quality.

Selection

The collaborations are selected by approval voting.

Voting

If you support an article please vote, by clicking on edit by the article's title, and add a new line with the text # ~~~~. This will add your username and the time you signed automatically. Please add comments if you wish.

  • Please only add support votes - opposing votes will not affect the result as the choice is done by approval voting (the most votes, wins).
  • Please vote for as many candidates as you like.
  • Only registered users may vote.
  • Being a member of WikiProject Comics is not a requirement to vote!

Tie-breakers

To keep things simple, if two or more articles have both had the same number of votes by the selection time, the article nominated first is chosen as COTF.

Making Nominations

  • At the top of the list of nominees on this page, enter the text {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Collab/name of nominated article}}.
  • Click on the appropriate link in the new message box.
  • Enter the text === [[name of nominated article]] ===.
  • Enter your reason for the nomination, and sign it using ~~~~.

In addition to the above steps please add the text {{ComicsCollabCandidate}} at the top of the article's talk page.

Chosen Candidate

When a candidate is chosen, the template {{ComicsCollabCurrent}} will be added at the top of the article's page, and the name of the article should be edited into it in the appropriate places.

Discussion should then begin upon the winning article's talk page in a new section headed ==Collaboration of the Month==.

This is to allow the development of goals for the article at the beginning of the collaboration Month and could lead to the addition of a To-do list, thus presenting a clear overview of the work required. This would also permit the needed improvements remaining on display upon the talk page if the collaboration does not achieve everthing in the two weeks allowed.

Considerations

  • Please only nominate Comics-related articles which are near enough to featured article status already such that a collaboration is likely to bring it up to FA quality.
  • Giving reasons to why an article should be chosen will aid others in supporting.

Archiving

If a nomination does not receive enough votes (three votes for every month it is nominated) it will be archived.

Previous collaborations

The following articles were previously collaborations of the Month:

  1. X-Men (nomination page, difflink)
  2. Comics (nomination page, difflink)

Perhaps the most influential American comic creator of the past twenty-five years, both as an artist and a writer. Iron Ghost 00:21, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination: Arguably most prominent and influential creator of the underground comics movement. Existing article is decent: some references, some illustrations, decent prose. There is enough other info out there to build this into an FA.--ike9898 22:02, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I too would back up the decision to revamp this one, as he is the most complex of all of the aforementioned subjects, and as is now, his article is more than lacking considering all of the infomration available on him.--[Robolizard- 3 April 2006]

Just wandering through Wiki and came across this, i don't think it really justifies Spawn, would help with an expanded history of Spawn and his enemies.Toxin 10:29, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Having just seen and touched-up his remarkably emptyu entry, I was was surprised to find it was a very ... basic, and not-well-organized stub. I believe it deserves expansion and serious attention since Adams truly is a comics-industry legend (and a significant name in commercial art)

By "legend" (an often hackneyed and vague term), I cite the following:

  • Adams' art on Batman, one of the major popular-culture icons, is considered among the definitive interpretaions.
  • In a career that's stood the test of time — nearly 40 years now — he remains as major a name as ever.
  • He helped create/revamp such enduring characters as Deadman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Killraven, the Spectre and others; he drew and co-plotted Marvel's classic "Kree/Skrull War" arc of the Avengers; he's produced significant work on such major characters as X-Men and Conan the Barbarian.
  • He helped usher a sea change in comics art to the naturalistic, illustrative look;
  • And he's been the subject of many hardcover collections.

If for no other reason, his crusading on behalf of creator's rights — particularly during an earlier time when doing so could get you blackballed — was a big press- and attention-getting factor in a major industry change that has had lasting influence on people's livelihoods and made comics more professional and mainstream. This seems significant on societal and cultural levels, respectively, above comics art or entertainment value.

And then there's the whole commercial-art realm that might be new information to many of those who would look up Adams on Wikipedia.

Sorry for the longwinded case. Professional habit. Keep up the excellent work, all! --Tenebrae 17:15, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This is such a great Batman character with loads of potential & has taken parts in comics such a Knightfall, but only has a stub to his name... Spawn Man 20:46, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  1. I'd go along with this. It's one of the few non-superhero titles, like American Splendor, that people outside of our community might have heard of and may wish to look up on Wikepedia. -- Tenebrae 17:57, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I agree. There are other well-known non-superhero titles now, but I think all of them owe their existence to what Maus did, and it deserves a better article. Lord Bodak 00:23, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Hiding talk 12:07, 31 October 2005 (UTC) I would agree - the context of the comic and its impact on the creator and his relationship with his family, as well as the difficulty later generations have in dealing with an event such as the holocaust it an incredible event which deserves the exposure it can receive here[reply]

  6. I'd vote for this candidate. Not only is it an outstanding piece of work, but it's unique effect on the current respect given to the medium makes it worthy of featured status.Markeer 16:18, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Shortly after the birth of the modern American comic book, this "packager" — one of a handful of companies creating comic-book content on demand for new publishers breaking into the burgeonging field — produced, among many other things, the first comic for the company that would become Marvel Comics. Funnies, Inc.'s creations include comics superstars the Sub-Mariner and the original Human TorchTenebrae 17:49, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Japan is one of the few countries where comics are widely considered an art form, are a major media, offer a wide diversity of generes and are read throughout genders and ages. Also, manga is becoming more and more popular all around the world. I think this article represents a broad aspect of the form of comics and is relatively close to being nominated as a featured article. Fritz S. 11:24, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
