William Jefferson Blythe III was born 27 Feburary, 1918 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. Father of William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton, Sharon Lee Blythe and Leon Ritzenthaler. He is reported by the Washington Post to have probably married three times. His last marriage was to Virginia Dell Cassidy on 3 September, 1943. He died on May 17, 1946 (aged 28) after he lost control of his 1942 Buick on Highway 60 outside of Sikeston, Missouri when the right front tire blew out whilst travelling from Chicago to Hope. After crashing he ended up in drainage ditch which filled with water and he subsequently drowned in 3 feet of water. He is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hope, Arkansas, USA. [1]

William served in the U.S. army during the Second World War and was posted to Italy. After the war he worked as a travelling salesman.
