The Tollan was the first advanced human civilization encountered by SG-1, in the first-season episode "Enigma". Their original planet called Tollan was being destroyed. They had found and given technology to a less advanced human society which used it to make war. The destruction of that planet, knocked Tollan out of its standard orbit and caused it to be destroyed. It was evacuated, and the final Tollan team was going to destroy the stargate but because of the volcanic activity were incapacitated before they could. SG-1 saved them, to the inexplicable dismay of their leader, Omoc. However, another Tollan, Narim, took a liking to Samantha Carter. It soon became apparent that their technology was overly sought after by Stargate Command, as they possessed the abillities to walk through walls, and send messages faster than the speed of light. With the help of the Nox they managed to get the survivors off Earth to safely.

The Tollan's new planet, Tollana was protected with Ion Cannons and housed their peaceful socity until Anubis was able to protect his ships from them. Anubis wished to use their phaseshifting technology to to send bombs through defenses like the Iris protecting Stargate Command. SG-1 discovered this plot with the help of Narim after the death of Omoc – possibly killed by the Tollan Curia. Anubis attacked Tollana and it is believed he managed to wipe out the Tollan society.
