Simple and Clean is a song by J-pop singer Hikaru Utada. It is a song not featured on any of her albums, and it is the theme song to the English language release of the video game Kingdom Hearts.

"Simple and Clean" can be found on her album "Colors" and also on the first Kingdom Hearts soundtrack. Although it has been remixed many times, the most common is the PLANITb remix, which is the opening theme of the Western version of Kingdom Hearts.

The song is not a literal English version of her song "Hikari" (光, light) with English lyrics. The lyrics of "Simple of Clean" are not the direct translation of "Hikari," and the song itself is not the same song as "hikari." While composing "hikari," Utada Hikaru abandoned a hook that would later be used in a song featured on her Deep River album, "uso mitaina I LOVE YOU" (嘘みたいなI Love You , A lie-like 'I love you'). When she recorded "Simple and Clean," she used the hook for the verses. While "Simple and Clean" was only loosely tied with the original Kingdom Hearts, Hikari was written such that it fit with the theme of the game's storyline.

The song is used as the theme song in Western versions and Final Mix version of the video game Kingdom Hearts and also its GBA sequel, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, which features both the original version and the PLANITb remix.

The lyrics are the singer telling her boyfriend about her feelings and exploring her insecurities.

When you walk away / You don't hear me say / Please / Oh, baby, don't go / Simple and clean is the way / That you're making me feel tonight / It's hard to / Let it go
