Wes Cherry worked as an intern for Microsoft in 1989 during his senior year of college. There he wrote the simple solitaire game that has been included with every Microsoft Windows release since version Windows 3.0. Cherry created the game as a means to learn Windows programming. Since he made the program for free, he never received any one-time compensation or royalties.
