Potash is the non-systematic name for potassium carbonate, K2CO3.

The term caustic potash is the non-systematic name for potassium hydroxide, KOH.

The term comes from the English words pot ash, describing the production of these compounds from ashes of burnt wood.

The element potassium derives its name from these substances.
