Amado is a town located in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 275.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 29.1 km² (11.2 mi²). 29.1 km² (11.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.0 km² (0.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.00% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 275 people, 104 households, and 66 families residing in the town. The population density is 9.5/km² (24.5/mi²). There are 107 housing units at an average density of 3.7 persons/km² (9.5 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 70.91% White, 0.36% African American, 1.09% Native American, 0.73% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 26.18% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 43.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 104 households out of which 29.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 35.6% are non-families. 27.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.39.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $20,417, and the median income for a family is $82,922. Males have a median income of $22,946 versus $26,563 for females. The per capita income for the town is $21,452. 8.8% of the population and 7.1% of families are below the poverty line.
