In the Legend of Zelda games, Ganondorf is an evil thief and wizard who seeks the Triforce, a remnant of the goddesses of power, wisdom, and courage, to take over the land of Hyrule and veil it into darkness.

History

The first male born to the Gerudo people in a hundred years, Ganondorf was raised by the Sorceress Sisters Twinrova, Koume and Kotake. As their only male, the Gerudo made him their king. Using their resources, he taught himself magic, and learned of the existence of the Triforce, an ancient relic that could allegedly grant wishes to its bearer. Learning that the royal family of Hyrule once guarded the Triforce, he presented himself to the King and offered himself as an advisor in order to get close to them, especially young Princess Zelda.

His schemes included infesting the Great Deku Tree with parasites, blocking the Dodongo Cavern, and sickening Lord Jabu Jabu, the god of the Zora people. Through the actions of Zelda and a young lad named Link, the door to the Golden Land was opened, and Ganondorf stepped through to claim the Triforce. Unfortunately, he only lusted for power, and the Triforce separated, two pieces eluding him, and they sought out their destined protectors, Zelda (Wisdom) and Link (Courage).

He amassed a vast army of evil within the Golden Land, and then drew it into Hyrule to invade and take over. A fully-grown Link awoke the Sages and used their power to fight him. With the Sages and Zelda assisting him, he defeated Ganondorf and collapsed his tower. Using the Triforce of Power one last time, Ganondorf transformed into a gigantic demonic form: Ganon, the Prince of Evil.

Defeated, Ganon was imprisoned in the void between realms. He managed to escape a generation later, gather an army, and invade Hyrule again, capturing Princess Zelda. A wanderer named Link fought him within his fortress in Death Mountain, defeating him with silver arrows and destroying his body.

A hundred years later, with the full Triforce in his possession, Ganon tried to break the seal of the Sages, but his destined foe, Link, defeated him utterly. Every time Ganon rises, a green-clad warrior rises with him to strike him down.

Ganondorf is one of the secret characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
