Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute
Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI) is a secondary school located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the city's Calvin Park neighbourhood, and was built to serve newly developed areas in what was then the west end of the city, where thousands of new homes were being built in the early 1960s. The school was opened in 1963 as the third high school in the city, to provide room for the first wave of the baby boom generation then entering their teen years. Enrollment today is approximately 750, however, the school was built to accommodate up to 2,000 students, with the major decline occurring in the early 1980s.
Commonly referred to as simply "LC", the school is located at 153 Van Order Drive. Under principal John G. "Jack" Linscott from 1963 until 1984, the school was considered a leader in Ontario in combining technical and trades education with superior academic achievement. The school later became widely recognized for its trendsetting International and English as a Second Language programs.
Calvin Park Public School, offering Grade 7 and 8, shares space within LCVI. It was previously a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school located in a separate building opened in 1965 directly across the street from LCVI, that now serves as an adult education centre and Kingston's French public high school.
The school colours are Kelly green, white and gold, and sports teams use the nickname "Lancers".
