Weippe is a city located in Clearwater County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 416.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.0 km² (0.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.00% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 416 people, 161 households, and 119 families residing in the city. The population density is 391.8/km² (1,009.8/mi²). There are 198 housing units at an average density of 186.5 persons/km² (480.6 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.12% White, 0.24% African American, 1.20% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 0.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 161 households out of which 36.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 25.5% are non-families. 20.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the city the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $26,442, and the median income for a family is $28,281. Males have a median income of $30,694 versus $17,500 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,175. 24.8% of the population and 16.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 36.3% are under the age of 18 and 19.7% are 65 or older.
