NLL Career
Jim Veltman is widely regarded as one of the best indoor lacrosse players in the world. He has led the National Lacrosse League in loose balls in 13 of the last 14 seasons (the other year he did not play), earning him the nickname "Scoop". On February 5, 2006, Jim reached a milestone as he "scooped" his 2000th career loose ball. Jim also holds the single season record for loose balls with 214 (in 15 games thus far) in the 2005-2006 season. Jim scooped 14 loose balls on April 8, 2006, to break his own previous record of 207, set in 2003.
From 1992 to 1996, Jim played 5 seasons with the Buffalo Bandits, winning three NLL Championships. After the 1996 season, Jim and his wife travelled to Uganda where they did volunteer work for 17 months.
In 1998, Jim returned to the NLL, moving with Bandit head coach Les Bartley to the expansion Ontario Raiders, based in Hamilton, Ontario. A year later, the Ontario franchise move to Toronto, becoming the Toronto Rock, where Jim has won five more NLL Championships. Jim has been the captain of the Rock since 1999.
For the 2004 NLL season, Jim was named league MVP.
Off the floor, Jim is a physical education teacher at Agincourt Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, Toronto, where he coaches the lacrosse team.
