The Andy Milonakis Show is a comedy series starring Andy Milonakis currently on MTV2, the first season having aired on MTV. The show consists of comedy sketches featuring Milonakis as well as a supporting cast made up of his actual neighbors and people from the Lower East Side Manhattan neighborhood where the show takes place, including his friend Ralphie, his neighbor Larry and a strange old woman. Each show also features celebrity guests such as the Ying Yang Twins, Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, John Stamos, Lil Jon, Rob Schneider, Black Eyed Peas, Vanessa Minnillo, Juelz Santana, Paul Wall, Nick Cannon, The All American Rejects and Carson Daly.
The show often begins with a cold opening, a very short sketch to "prepare" the viewer for the rest of the show. For instance, one of these beginning sketches first shows a view of the Milky Way through a telescope while Andy voices his amazement. The camera pulls back to reveal that the telescope is, in fact, pointed at Andy's poster of the Milky Way.
After the initial sketch and the opening theme (an absurd rap song sung by Andy), the show proceeds to the full-length sketches. Common themes include Andy pretending to know random people, interacting with his neighbors, and playing with his dog Wubbie. He also orders delivery food and plays jokes on the delivery men, such as making fake coupons, putting shoes in pizzas and asking how they got there, and naming his pizza Larry and assaulting it.
The "Fish Dude"
A running gag in every episode features an unnamed elderly African man holding a fish and smoking a cigarette. The man is often shown as Andy's reflection or Andy's own mental picture of himself. He laughs in every appearance, a wheezing, asthmatic sound. He has done the following things:
in season 1:
- While Andy is dancing to a reggae song, a strobe light flashes rapidly, and for some brief moments, the fish dude can be seen dancing.
- Andy paints a self-portrait, and when the camera shows the picture it is the fish dude. The camera then moves back to where Andy was standing, but instead of Andy, it is the fish dude looking at the portrait of his momma.
- Andy asks Rose if Life Savers candies really make a spark in the dark, so they go in and bite on them, and when a small spark appears in the dim light you see the fish dude.
- Andy flips a seemingly useless light switch on and off, wondering what it does, when in reality the fish dude comes closer with every flip.
- Andy opens a medicine cabinet, and when he closes it you see the fish dude's reflection instead of Andy's.
- Andy gets a new Polaroid camera and takes a picture of himself. When it develops we see the fish dude instead of Andy.
- Andy is asleep, and when his clock wakes him he hits the snooze button and pulls the covers over his head. When the clock goes off again and he pulls off the covers it is the fish dude.
- Andy is flipping through channels, and he stops and looks horrified when the camera shows the set the fish dude is on TV.
in season 2:
- When Andy discovers that Wubby puked on the floor, he starts to transform into The Incredible Hulk, but once he's done transforming, he turns into the fish dude.
- Andy is pulling a string from his dog like he is unraveling it and it turns out to be Ralphie. Then Ralphie starts to pull a string from Andy the same way and it is the fish dude.
- Andy took a rake and cut it and stepped on it then he turned into the fish dude.
- Andy rushed into his room and got a cardboard safe out from inside a teddy bear and opened it while being stressed by time and when he got the safe open, the fish dude was inside holing the bear Andy tore the head off of to get the safe and when it went back to Andy, he was the fish dude holding the Teddy Bear.
Second Season
The show has been picked up for a second season which airs on MTV2. The second season premiered on March 31, 2006 at 9pm in the Sic'em Friday lineup. Known guest stars are Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Nick Cannon, Juelz Santana and the All American Rejects. The first episode of this season is available for download for free, on iTunes. As of the second season, the end credits song is no longer American Idiot but a rap by Milonakis himself.
