James W. Robinson, Jr. Secondary School, founded in the 1970s, is the largest public high school in the Commonwealth of Virginia located in Fairfax, Virginia and administered by the Fairfax County Public Schools. Robinson offers the International Baccalaureate program and currently enrolls about 4000 students. Its main colors are blue and gold. Their mascot is a ram.
History
Robinson Secondary School was named after Medal of Honor recipient sergeant James W. Robinson, Jr..
Robinson was founded in 1971 during a trend of building large "superschools". Robinson's cross-town rival, Lake Braddock, is another example of superschools from this era. However, the superschool concept fell out of favor by the end of the 1970s and they are no longer constructed in Virginia.
Demographics
In 2005-2006, Robinson's student body was 68% White; 6% Black; 9% Hispanic; and 17% Asian.
Subschools
Because of its immense size, Robinson Secondary is organized into one Subschool for each grade.

Layout
The school's layout is relatively simple, as are most Fairfax County Schools. It consists of a 1/4 mile long hallway (Maranian Hallway) with six subschools (7 to 12th grade.) Also along the hallway are the two smaller hallways, Academic Hallway and High School Hallway that run perpendicular to the main hallway with classrooms and two cafeterias on either side. The Harry M. Smith Field House has room to seat the entire student body, while Russell Theatre (capacity 676), at the west end of the main hallway, is host to the many theatre productions that Robinson's Cappies award-winning Drama department performs.
International Baccalaureate Program
Robinson is host to the International Baccalaureate Program and graduates approximately 90 students a year as full Diploma candidates. Additionally, several hundred students participate in the program as Certificate candidates electing to take only a few IB classes.

The Robinson Rams Varsity Football Team are one of the most popular sporting teams at the school. They play at Coffey Stadium, and their helmets are very similar to the helmets of NFL club, the St. Louis Rams. Like many other high school American football teams, the average game for the team can attract as many as 7,500 fans a game.
The team has won the Virginia State Championships in 1997 and 2001, the district championships in 1977, 1979, 1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, and the regional championships in 1977, 1988, 1992, 1997, 2001 and 2004.
In 2004, the Robinson Rams went undefeated until they lost the Virginia state finals in Richmond, Virginia on December 11, 2004. Their hopes of an undefeated season in 2005 were, however, dashed after a defeat by the Wildcats of Centreville High School.

Robinson Band Program
The James W. Robinson Band program is a highly successful music program that values growth in musicianship, leadership, and teamwork. The program is led by directors Denny Stokes and Linda Gammon and consists of more than ten performing ensembles in both middle and high school. It boasts two Sudler Flags of Honor and is a frequent recipient of the Virginia Honor Band Award. In 2005, the Robinson Marching Band competed with over sixty bands from the surrounding area and surpassed them all with a show featuring the music of Gustav Holst. High school band director Denny Stokes was recently inducted into the American Bandmasters Association. The band plans to travel to Atlanta in the Spring to participate in their annual Spring Trip competition. Like many other activities at Robinson, the band program enjoys support from the Robinson community and encourages new studnets to participate.
