Tweener (professional wrestling)
Appearance
In professional wrestling, a tweener is a character who is portrayed as being morally neutral or ambiguous; that is, they are between a face and a heel.
One classic example was "Diesel", the gimmick (character) portrayed by Kevin Nash in the WWE during the 1990s.
During the mid to late 1990's, tweener gimmicks became increasingly popular in Extreme Championship Wrestling, nWo era World Championship Wrestling, and "Attitude" era WWF (now known as WWE). These saw a number of 'crowd favourite' faces, rather than becoming traditional babyfaces, instead adopting heel tactics. Some examples of such are Stone Cold Steve Austin, "Crow" Sting and Eddie Guerrero's "Lie, Cheat and Steal" gimmick he is currently using.
