Captain Carrot (real name Roger Rodney Rabbit) is a fictional character in the DC Comics universe. An anthropomorphic rabbit, Captain Carrot is a superhero who lives on the otherdimensional world of Earth-C, an alternate Earth populated by sentient animals. Her first appearance was in The New Teen Titans #16 (February 1982).

At the beginning of the Captain Carrot series, he was referred to as "Roger Rabbit"; later in the series, "Rodney Rabbit" was usually used, to avoid legal issues involving the literary (and later film) character Roger Rabbit.

Biography

Rodney was a cartoonist who lived in Gnu York (a parody of New York, New York) and worked for "BC Comics", his world's version of DC Comics, writing and drawing the comic "Justa Lotta Animals" (a parody of the Justice League of America). While working in his office, Rodney found a windowbox where he was growing carrots was hit by a meteor fragment launched by Starro the Conqueror. Upon eating one of the irradiated carrots, or "cosmic carrots," Rodney found himself turned into a superpowered rabbit. Donning an old Halloween costume, Rodney teamed up with other super-powered animals affected by the same meteor's fragments, and the group (with the aid of Superman, who Rodney had met just before discovering his irradiated carrots) defeated Starro. Afterwards, the animals decided to form the superhero team called the Zoo Crew, with Captain Carrot as its leader.

Template:Spoiler In Teen Titans #30-31 (December 2005-January 2006), Captain Carrot appears in a series of pages purporting to be a Zoo Crew comic published in the mainstream DC Universe, and follows the adventures of the Zoo Crew teammates in a grimmer, darker version of Earth-C, parodying the recent trend toward "grim and gritty" superhero comics. In these pages, Rodney is shown as retired from both cartooning and being a superhero, living a life of seclusion. Template:Endspoiler

Powers and abilities

Upon eating a "cosmic carrot," Rodney is imbued with various superpowers, including limited invulnerability, super-strength, enhanced speed, stamina, hearing, and vision, and the ability to make gigantic, powerful leaps. Rodney's powers are the only ones out of the Zoo Crew that aren't permanent; after 24 hours or a period of extreme exertion, Captain Carrot's powers wear off, and Rodney reverts to being normal again.
