The Thompson M1 was a variant of the Thompson submachine gun.

First issued in 1943, the M1 was a simplified version of the already venerable Tommy gun used by US troops. U.S Army ordinance ordered it to be simplifed to cut cost, as the Tommy was expensive to produce.
