Dear Wiz Dragon

Dear Wiz Dragon: I have not been on my computer for a few days... I wrote a discussion page entry on Lou Dobbs to outline his "strongly stated opinions" about US immigration and other issues. You sort of warned warned about neutrality... at least on Wikipedia. In this case I don't see how it could be done. I share some of Lou Dobbs fears... but when tonight I read how pissed off some guy with you about defending his viewpoints I was convinced that... it just isn't worth it if its upsetting people. I guess its one thing to express my opinions to my friends, but another to express it so publicly... I'm gonna sit back and not post anything further (indefinately) ...until I think about how to express myself without hurting anyones feelings. I feel sick about how that went! --merlinus 23:43, 21 April 2006 (UTC)Merlinus--merlinus 23:43, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That actually, as far as I can tell, was not prompted by anything you had said or posted, but rather the content of links which Will Beback proposed for the article.
That said, I do have to agree with one sentiment in a way, it's just not worth continually fighting with that guy. If it becomes worse, I will probably have someone run checkuser on the anon user, as I'm not entirely unconvinced he's a sock puppet. In the meantime, I'm going to re-post a request for protection. Please do continue to contribute to Wikipedia, and remember to be bold - just let the dust settle there before you post proposed changes to Lou Dobbs again. -- Wizardry Dragon 23:51, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wizardry Dragon

I read what you wrote and you can always use your user page as a soapbox that way; it is your own personal space on Wikipedia, after all :) -- Wizardry Dragon 20:49, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • By the way, don't feel like it's a crime to state your opinions - it's not. So long as you don't change articles in violation of the NPOV policies, you're good. I think you're doing fine, and you did yourself good to stand up and take responsibility on that talk page, which is something that anon user still hasnt done. -- Wizardry Dragon 23:15, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nathan:

Thank you for responding to my inquerry to Happy Camper about Wikipedia Rules, Regualtions and Ettiquette. I found them most helpful. I placed the links on my page and am using them to study as a "workbook" before doing any editing of article pages. I can now see I was really misusing Wikipedia as it was intended. I must be honest though that I was not just ignorant about it before I was being stubborn about expressing opinions that I thought might support other people like me who were disabled americans who were having trouble finding work and afraid of losing health insuranse to pay for the medications I must take to keep me alive since I had a coma. Regrettably I got carried away with opinions and could have hurt people with my bull headedness. Thats the problem with writing a public article I guess, my morals say I should apolagize to everyone I've offended but when its in writting on the net... you see my problem? Sigh! Well I screwed up! I read something in what you sent copied below, but i still feel like crap. --merlinus 16:11, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Merlinus--merlinus 16:11, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Being rude, insensitive or petty makes people upset and stops Wikipedia working well. Try to discourage others from being uncivil, and be careful to avoid offending people unintentionally. Mediation is available if needed.
  • A misguided notion: "Kicking them while they are down" Note: There are certain Wikipedia users who are unpopular, perhaps because of foolish or boorish behavior in the past. Such users may have been subject to disciplinary actions by the Arbitration Committee. It is only human to imagine that such users might be fair game for personal attacks. This notion is misguided; people make mistakes, often learn from them and change their ways. The NPA rule applies to all users irrespective of their past history or how others regard them

Hey Nath, Its Marc:

Thanks very much for working on "sign" you did and placed on my talk page. It is really quite good. I've been working hard reading up on Wikipedia rules so I can communicate be a wee bit less offensively when I feel I'm being ignored or p*ssed off. I've basicly been focused on working on my own user page for the better part of a week. Take a look from time to time if you have a minute. I got the idea of updating it regularly from yours. Thanks. Please Support Universal Health Care

  • Health care is a right.
  • Coverage should be provided to all citizens.
  • Health care increasingly unaffordable for people and businesses.
  • People suffering from chronic, potentially fatal illness are not discouraged from seeking medical care as they are under a privatized system.
  • Citizens of the richest, most powerful country in the world fall thru the cracks and die in abject poverty like the third world after spending all thier lifetimes savings on a few months medical care and persciptions.
  • All citizens deserve quality medical care regardless of wealth or privlege.
  • Some must choose between food or buying pills and doctor visits.
  • Encourages low income patients preventive care preventive expensive later care.
  • Private insurance companies are more concerned with maximizing profit than with patient care. Care is often inadequete. People have higher premiums, lack of coverage, and frequent legal attempts to avoid paying legitimate claims. That is a consequence of profit motive-- a motive that simply would not exist in a state-run universal health care system. Therefore, it most certainly is a valid point in support of UHC. --Kris

Hi Right Back Atchya!

It's nice to "meet" you, Marc. I actually live in Maryland, but I come from Massachusetts (and think it's a much cooler - in both weather and the slang sense of the word - state than Maryland). I am 16 years old, my name is Emily, and I mainly use Wikipedia when I want to know something, or when I'm obsessing over everything Harry Potter. I see you like Harry Potter too! I support the disabled, and I'm glad you're recovering! I know I'm only 16- but I'm much smarter (I think) and involved in the world than you might think. You can read my user page- perhaps you already have. I like Fantasy and Science Fiction books a lot- I also like a ton of tv, but I hardly watch any during the week. It's all on Saturday night or Sunday at my dad's apartment! I tape record (still on a VCR) shows during the week... it's really fun to watch a bunch of tv in a row. Anyway, it's nice to meet you. Oh yeah- I like the Beatles! But I've never obsessed over music- there's so many other great things to obsess over! Go to www.funtrivia.com, which, as you can see from my signature, is my favorite website (although I love Wikipedia, which is taking away from my precious FunTrivia time). I've put 41 quizzes online! Again, it's always nice to hear from someone. I have Math and English homework to do- yikes! I still have to read Act V of "Twelfth Night" and answer questions, and do a review ditto on factoring for my Honors Functions, Statistics, and Trigonometry class. And it's 9:09pm. Did I forget to mention- most of all, I'm a procrastinator! I hope I didn't spell too much wrong- I hate that! I'm sorry I didn't link anything- I'm too rushed. Bye for now! Emily (Funtrivia Freak) 01:10, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also- the "Unenrolled voter" stuff is interesting, and I too oppose the Iraq war. Did you mean to say "I REMEBER" (and not r-e-m-e-M-b-e-r) in your caption for the French-Canadian thing? I assumed it was a typo- but I didn't want to change it, because my edit thing is acting funny and maybe it meant something I didn't get. Youngster:

I'm not considering actually meeting anyone from the internet- don't worry. It is a scary place out there. AIDs! I've never gone on a date, kissed anyone, etc. Next year I probably will still be a clueless nobody who's never had a date- what will I do about Junior Prom? Lol. I'm ridiculously scared to do any of that stuff... how will I know how to kiss someone? I never considered having sex with anyone while I'm in high school... don't worry. I think that page might be fun, but I don't think I'd want to "be the president"- but only because I'm not sure what I'd do, and I may be a bad leader. I'd join the "club"! I'd love to start Wikipedia's own Order! But... I don't know... Emily (Funtrivia Freak) 20:56, 26 April 2006 (UTC) (P.S.- I read the 5th book the most out of all the books- 4 times. And then, with my dad and brother in the car for over a month, weekend after weekend on the way home (we talk on the way TO his apartment) we listened to book 5. We just finished last weekend! It was so awesome! I would have bought one of the books on CD if they weren't SO EXPENSIVE! But the library's better. We might listen to another book- my dad's library has all of them. Which book do you suggest? I was thinking maybe the third... or the sixth... or any of them.... What do you think?) (Emily (Funtrivia Freak) 20:56, 26 April 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Welcome!

It's a pleasure to make your aquaintance, if only virtually - I am just up the road from you in Boston, where I attend college and am just wrapping up my second year. I haven't that much else to say; I am also a new Wikipedian, speaking in relative terms - and I don't contribute as much as I want to, especially at the present, being overwhelmed with finals - but they're almost done with, thank goodness. Well I must be off, can't wait to see what you bring to our wonderful community! [[1]] --Raj Fra 02:14, 26 April 2006 (UTC)<:)>[reply]

Hello

Thank you for saying hello. I hope that your return to Wikipedia is marked by stability. May your recovery continue on without interruption! I don not have a whole lot to say as I am still learning about Wikipedia, but I hope to become more active in discussions in the future. With some few exceptions, I tend not to discuss my political beliefs extensively nor do I try to force them onto others. I am more of a peacekeeper kind of Wikipedian. Take care and enjoy your spring! Mappychris 05:18, 26 April 2006 (UTC)mappychris<:)>[reply]

Julia Bond image

I saw your remarks about Image:Julia Bond.jpg. You might take a look at WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not censored. There are many explicitly sexual images on WP, whereas the Julia Bond one is not explicitly sexual, so it's not even in the ballpark of being deleted for that reason (the only way there might be an issue is if the model is under 18, but even then I think this particular image would be fine).

On the other hand it probably will be deleted if its copyright status is not clarified in a satisfactory manner. --Trovatore 17:30, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When I wrote the above I didn't know who Julia Bond was; I've since done a Google search and found out she's a porn actress. Was that part of your concern? I don't see that it changes much; the picture in question is still nothing you don't see at the shopping mall. (But it does probably increase the chances that the picture is copyvio.) --Trovatore 02:43, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merlinus replies to Trovatore:

  • A Pornstar?
    • I did not "Know" that that photo was of a porn actress. My point, I think was not to imply that I have never "studied" such copyrighted photo's of women. When I was younger I was too familiar... my point was that there should be some way of protecting our kids from viewing sexually explicit stuff that adults may indulge in. Free speech on the internet is essential and I don't believe in censorship! I just am concerned about what kids can view on a safe free encyclopedia like Wikipedia. Let Bomis serve up Porn if they want to, but let Wiki be more family oriented. I'm sure its founder (Wales)would agree!--merlinus 14:25, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Wikipedia has an enormous amount of information, and even images, that many parents would find objectionable for their children. I'm afraid that's going to have to be the parents' lookout; you're not going to find much support for childproofing the encyclopedia. Jimbo has intervened in a couple of exceptional cases, but they were very far removed from this very mild image. --Trovatore 18:47, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hola!

Hello

Hi Merlinus, I have been extremely busy these days, and so I did not get a chance to answer your question right away from about a week ago. How are you finding things on Wikipedia these days? --HappyCamper 03:22, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to hear! I would not worry too much about the online internet culture. It is almost a given that you will encounter abrasive people - just make sure they don't get to you, and you'll do fine. I will give you a few tips - be careful what you say, because everything on the internet is very public, and very persistent. You want to be on the good side of that :-) Remember, it's extremely hard to remove information that you release, and even harder for the internet to forgive and forget. Having said this, it simply means that you have to be a bit smart and creative when expressing your thoughts, opinions, and feelings. Sometimes, the combination of being a bit politically correct, light-hearted, and assertive works well. By the way, if you need a scratchpad, edit this page here User:Merlinus/Sandbox. Also, check out WP:RD - this place gives you a chance to interact with more interesting and nice people on Wikipedia. --HappyCamper 06:35, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Deletion

Ah yes, you've discovered Wikipedia's mechanism for deletion of articles! All the relevant information can be found here at WP:AFD, the shortcut for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. I highly recommend reading everything and observing a healthy number of debates before jumping in. It can be really fun. Let me know if you have any more questions about this very important aspect of Wikipedia after going through the pages. --HappyCamper 19:29, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Umm...Merlinus? I see you went to a number of AfD pages and added a little note at the bottom expressing your interest in the process. You've got one administrator's attention now, so you can stop :-) I'm sort of guessing what you meant by your edit summaries...they seem like random characters and such. "db" typically means "delete because" on Wikipedia. "nn" means "not notable". Check out Wikipedia:Speedy deletions. --HappyCamper 19:38, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thryduulf

Wikipedia:Guide to deletion gives a good introduction to how the deletion process works on Wikipedia. It also features a "Shorthands" that explains all the mysterious phrases found in deletion debatse. Thryduulf 19:43, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Thryduulf, that's the page I was really looking for! --HappyCamper 19:46, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah...no worries :-) Just another random thought...it occurred to me you might find Wikipedia:Sandbox/Word Association a friendly introduction to learn how to properly wikify articles and deal with tables. There are lots of examples there. --HappyCamper 19:49, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Delete NAMBLA's Entire Category

It is wrong to give them an forum to express thier point of view like this. It is wrong for children to hear about them on TV and then have a place to go on the Internet to learn about them. These people are sick criminals and should not be treated like humans. If we had an orginazation that kidnapped people and roasted them alive and ate thier flesh... would you give them a forum to come and tell the world thier justification for it or would you hunt down the bastards and kill them. Same here! This Talk Makes Me sick! I was molested at age 7 by a guy who had piles of ponography all over his house and a Nazi flag in his den. It was SICK, SICK, SICK, Dont come off and tell me its harmless as long as ITS CONSENTUAL. Your Sick! Normal Pornography, when in the hands of these bastards... "infatuated with children" can cause them to do "EVIL" things that they might not have done otherwise. These buttholes are criminals should be "CASTRATED" while awake, "REAMED" and then sent to jail with tattos on thier heads that say "Child Molester!" There is a conection between pornography and child molestation... wake up and see it! --merlinus 16:23, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Potter & Listening Order

I was actually quite confused by your most recent replies. What "order" were you talking about? I know what order the books go in, but that seems too simple (although maybe it isn't) for that to be what you were referring to. ... although my dad and brother might, I just enjoy reading them a little better, because it's so much faster. But the voices are awesome, and I have now just, for the first time, truly envisioned the Department of Mysteries and the Three Broomsticks scene with Hermione, Luna, and Rita Skeeter properly - all because of the book on CD. So, what were you talking about? Emily (Funtrivia Freak) 23:49, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Ask your Dad or Mom

I'm sure he would agree that it is preferable to read books first before seeing a movie or listing on CD tape. As for order, read them in the order they were published. Watch... the movies in the same order.

  • If you have other Harry Potter questions I would think it preferable if you could get several names of many Wikipedia Users closer to your own age to chat with like this. I'm not able to get out of my house much and spend all too much time at my computer, but even on Wikipedia, I have considerations about the morality of individual chat exchanges like this. I think it is a forum that could be misused and I would not even want give the appearence of impropriety if you understand? I would recomend that you share with your Mom and Dad things that go on on Wikipedia... or any chatroom you may find. Talk about Harry Potter seems to me harmless enough, I understand, but as an adult, I must make more responsible decisions. This is my best advise. Just keep above the board and use your computer resposibly. :@) --merlinus 01:26, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Red, Gray, and Green

I believe you are right. We need people of all kinds. I know my views vary with a specific issue. When I said I was a peacemaker, I really meant I only argue for the sake of academics or conversation. Fair and respectable debate is something I do appreciate. Mappychris 05:47, 28 April 2006 (UTC)mappychris[reply]

A response

It's a private concern of mine as well. However, I do believe that people only find what they are consciously looking for. The internet (like many other technologies) vastly improves the quality of life for many, but at the same time also introduces more complicated problems for society to solve. Even if the internet had some sort of mechanism for patrol, it would not work. The humans (especially the teenagers) are always wittier :-) To solve the ethical dilemma you asked about would probably require greater transparency and advocacy in the educational system. Simply put, people who use the internet need to be educated about the consequences of using it, so they can make informed choices. Let me tell you that it is the precisely the younger generation that is driving most of the improvments of the technology - they are the most familiar and versatile users of the internet, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. --HappyCamper 22:01, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to hear what you think of one of them. You could probably play the "Harry Potter" ones! Just click on this link: [8] and scroll down to my list of quizzes! I moved your pages back into your userspace

Hi Merlinus,

You recently moved your user page to the title Recently read books, which unfortunately is in mainspace (that is, it looks like an article on recently read books, with no specification of who it was who recently read them). I have moved it back into your userspace, to User:Merlinus/Recently read books.

Unfortunately the former contents of your talk page are now at User talk:Merlinus/Recently read books, which is a fairly nonsensical title. If you want to move it back here, to User talk:Merlinus, you'll need the help of an administrator. Otherwise you might choose to turn User talk:Merlinus/Recently read books into an archive, say by moving it to User talk:Merlinus/Archive 1, and putting a link at the top of this page. See WP:ARCHIVE. --Trovatore 18:30, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your recent questions is on my talk page. (Like most people here, I prefer to answer questions on the page they're asked.) --Trovatore 23:24, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Merilinus - I fixed your page history. Let me know if it's back to the way you would like it to be. --HappyCamper 03:15, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback

What you want to do for the categorization of the nambla page will probably not succeed, because Wikipedia is not censored. Rest assured, there are many Wikipedians who would rather not have that page on Wikipedia, but will go to all ends to make sure that the information there is presented neutrally. The culture on this project tends to lean towards the dissemination of knowledge, regardless of its perceived social, political or cultural context. Having said this, it does not mean that Wikipedia is providing a "voice" for these groups - it only provides a vehicle for subjects to be represented neutrally and in an encyclopedic fashion. Often these definitions contradict each other, and yes, you will find that there are inconsistencies in the system. More often than not they are resolved for the better good, but it might mean that it will take some more time than usual for those sorts of pages. I don't know very much about MySpace, but yes, check it out, and see if that might complement your interests on the internet. --HappyCamper 15:38, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to you, too

Hello, I got your message "WikiNeighbor." Nice music choice, I also like music and have acollection of antique books. I am also, as you said for yourself, not Democratic or Republican; I like the platform of the Green Party. However, I am a student and cannot vote. Rmpfu89 23:20, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jahiegel Defends Criminals Rights

Notwithstanding that our views apropos of pornography and its relation to child sexual abuse are altogether contrary, notwithstanding that I oppose all age of consent laws and think that's one consent to sexual activity need only be de jure (cf., informed, de facto, or reflecting a meeting of the minds, and notwithstanding that it's likely gauche (if not plainly untoward) for me to query you apropos of your personal views (even as you make these views very plain here), whereupon I certainly will understand your failure to respond, I wonder if you might essay an explanation of how you simultaneously support Amnesty International (an organization with the aims of which I'm generally in accord and of which I'm a member, even as I certainly don't support the social justice activities increasingly undertaken by AI), to whom you otherwise ascribe the appellative sick criminals and whom you suggest should not be treated like humans; that sentiment seems, IMHO, to run contrary to those generally expressed by AI. Jahiegel Joe 23:17, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merlinus replies:

  • What's apropos mean?
  • Why do you oppose age consent laws?
  • How can an innocent child of 6, 7, 8 or 12 be informed enough for your (meeting of the minds... its insane) A child can not comprehend sex yet and thus can not consent.
  • Are you part of NAMBLA? You use words like (apropos), (appellative) and (hereto) are you a lawyer who represents NAMBLA?
  • everyone should be treated like humans under the law, even those who espouse the doctorines of child molesters. The law should adress that these people are dangerious preditors and they should be reprted to the Department of Justice... not physically dealth with by vigilaties of the victims families... though many do deserve a good old fashioned lynching!
  • Note: Even liberals want the police to enforce laws that will keep the US safe for thier kids and many conservitives are conserned about the personal freedoms of law abiding US citizens. Thus you have the right to defend criminal acttions with without fear of yourself being arrested. If you "acted" on these beliefs though and did more than espouse them I would be "obligated" to turn you into the proper police officials!
    • PS: Jahiegel/Joe/ NAMBLA: My point is that talk believing that young children who are protected by the statuatory laws can "consent" to be your "criminal talk." You might consider it a legal intilectual discusion (ha) but it leads sick people down the road to devious ilegal behavior. How would you like a terrorist intellectually talking about blowing up your home city on the internet. Would you accept it or would you contact the police. Its the same thing to me! --merlinus 15:10, 8 May 2006 (UTC) --merlinus 13:58, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Free Speech Absolutist

Well, since I'm a free speech absolutist and oppose all laws criminalizing conspiracy, and, for different reasons, threats, I'd be altogether fine with a terrorist's talking about blowing up my home city, whether that talk was visceral or reasoned. With respect to your other questions, I've noticed that your tone has changed rather dramatically, and I wonder if you might have inferred from my blank talk page that I summarily deleted your response to my AI query; in fact, I was simply archiving my talk page and did intend to respond to you straightaway. I surely understand that your personal experiences color your beliefs in this respect, and I appreciate that you took the time properly to conflate your beliefs about the appropriate punishments for child sex abusers with your beliefs about the propriety of one's acting as a vigilante or of the state's undertaking to enforce punishments we'd otherwise term "cruel and unusual". As to my opposition to age-of-consent laws, I first do not think the state to be qualified to insinuate itself into private relationships in order to determine the competence of a given indiviudal to consent to sex, and I certainly do not think the state qualified properly to judge whether consent given was meaningful (in the sense of contract law). I further oppose all laws that seek to treat individuals differently on the basis of age (here, both the underage individual, who is denigrated when the state paternalistically substitutes its judgment for his/hers, and the adult, who is proscribed from engaging in sex acts to participation in which each prospective party has consented (I am, to be sure, a strong proponent of liberty of contract, and especially detest intrusions into such liberty by the state where the state seeks to ascertain what each party meant, notwithstanding explicit instructions to the contrary). I certainly realize that even liberals want the police to enforce laws that will keep the US safe for their kids, but I am glad that you also appreciate the distinction between one's thinking that certain classes of criminals deserve to be lynched and one's advocating that the state or private individuals undertake such lynching; I now better understand how you maintain simultaneously your belief in Amnesty International and your vitriolic, if strong, beliefs about child sex abuse, and I don't think your two positions to be inherently contradictory or contemporaneously untenable. I am not, as you will see from my user page, a lawyer, and I don't work for NAMBLA, but I certainly support the organization discursively, even as I am neither interested in sex with kids generally nor sex with boys specifically (I'm straight). WAR

My apologies for the abusive language on that IP's talk page. However, I've dealt with his kind before, and they understand only three things: Fundamentalist religion, money, and getting beaten over the head into a pulp with a Luser Attitude Readjustment Tool. 'Happyfaceism' won't work. I do understand the value of assuming good faith for a newbie, but bigots simply don't understand the concept of playing nice with society or fellow humans (or any concept past 2+2=4 and 'Kill the [insert racial or sexual minority here] for that matter). They simply want to rid the world of those individuals, behaviors, and entire demographics whose mere existence personally offends them, preferably by extreme violence.

These bigots and fundamentalists see our individual freedom to love whomever we want, drink and smoke what we want, and otherwise pursue happiness as an affront to be quashed and the 'perpetrators' put in cages or set upon with weapons and murdered in cold blood like animals. If it's war they want, then war they shall have! E. Sn0 =31337= 17:57, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WOW

For a liberal, agnostic person like myself who just feels stongly about protecting children from preditors that is quite a statement.

For the record

I assume neither good nor bad faith at this point until I know the full story. May I ask what you were trying to accomplish by these edits?

For the record, I have nothing to do with this garbage and if my name is going to be thrown around in such a manner, you can expect consequences (for them and anyone who follows them).

Don't believe everything some anon user tells you.

(Careful with your signing). I understand how your actions were in good faith. I do understand what happened and I understand how you could think it was me.
However, if you're faced with a similar situation, I'd suggest explaining what happened and asking the person you think is responsible if he/she is responsible. In my opinion (take this as you like), it doesn't make it look very good for you if you jump into the situation headfirst and accuse. Accusing without knowing all the facts is often not seen as acting in good faith.
If you try to view all headers of the message (if you can still access it without any harm), you can report it to the offender's ISP - or send it to me and I'll do so myself.
For the record though, there is more than one Nathan on Wikipedia. There is a User:Nathan, though he has no userpage. I've tested e-mailing myself through WP and e-mails from me would come through as From: Nathanrdotcom. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 22:08, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hope the anon user wasn't you. If it was..well..you know to do better if there's a next time. Even the implication that you're making a threat wouldn't be seen in a good light. Wikipedia is not a battleground and you'd likely be bitten if you did that. However, there's a lesson to be learned here and I think it should be left at that. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? • I think, therefore...I still am here... I really was sick for a few hours worried about this all and since on your website you said someone did the same to you I would think you of all people would understand that I was hacked for stating my beliefs- right or wrong! The very people that attacked me consider the right of all people to express thier beliefs paramount to thier cause. In that case they should accept my dialog and critisims of them freely and counter it with thier own dialog. It is the basis of good debate. To attack someones computer is taking a action and not a debate. I took no proactive actions against anyone. Not you or anyone. Retrubution against me in this case turned out to be futile because none of them realised that it caused me grief but little inconvienience. Like you said though, it was a learning expierience, I will watch my back more carefully.
