Edison High School (located in Edison, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA) is a school of over 2,000 consisting of students of many diverse cultures, and is part of the Edison Township Public Schools. Another major high school of Edison is J.P. Stevens High School. Edison High School came out as 75th out of 300 in New Jersey's best high schools. Most of the Edison High school students come from either Herbert Hoover Middle School or Thomas Jefferson Middle School, though some come from Woodrow Wilson Middle School.

Music

Edison High School is often credited with its fine music department. The A Cappella and Chambers choirs, for example, have been number one in national competitions for the past five years. The choir's success has largely been due to its director, Mr. Kenneth Brown. The various band programs are also highly superior to others in the same division, with the band placing first in similar competitions as the choirs. The band is directed by Mr. Marc DeNicuolo with assistant director Mr. David Scheck. The bands at edison high consist of the Freshman Band where all incoming freshman who take band must play in before being eligible to audition for the Wind Ensemble. The symphonic band is directed by Mr. Scheck and the wind ensemble which is by audition only and directed by Mr. DeNicuolo. The Edison High School Wind Ensemble recently took 3rd place with a rating of Gold at the South Brunswick Regional Competition. There is also a jazz band and jazz ensemble by audition only. The jazz ensemble is the advanced ensemble of the two that participates in various competitions.

Drama

Spectaculars are performed at the school in the spring. In March 2005, the drama department performed its production of Crazy For You, a Gershwin musical based on the original Girl Crazy. EHS' production was by far the best performed in New Jersey since the Paper Mill Playhouse performed some years before. The musical features intense choreography, witty dialogue, and an excellent cast. As of November, 2005, the school is now putting together a production of Barnum, a show that will feature a sideshow before the actual musical begins. The plays are directed by Mr. Harris, with production by Mr. McCaffrey.

Notable Alumni

Susan Sarandon (1964), Academy Award-winning actress.

Volleyball for Charity

On February 17, 2006, the volleyball team cleverly named "Safe Sets" won the Edison High School Volleyball for Charity tournament. Safe Sets trampled through every team they encountered, and finally defeated "South Sides Finest."

Sports

Football

Although previously state champions, the Edison High Eagles (football) have only won a single game in four years. The sole victorious game was against Spotswood High School and the game went into double overtime with a final score of 26-20. Edison is currently ranked last in the red division, and Spotswood is currently ranked last in the white division (two divisions below Edison).

Edison High defeated Spotswood in football early 2006. John Cirri, Justin Thompson, Dan Stio, Terry Roland, and Maurice Riley helped the Eagles to win.

Hockey

Edison High will be forming its first ice hockey team for the 2006-2007 season.

Film festival

The school is also the site to the future Edison High School Annual Film Festival, which will air in winter 2006 and is currently looking for admissions.
