Shock site

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 67.22.244.93 (talk) at 19:24, 22 May 2006 (Other shock sites). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

A shock site is a website intended to be offensive or shocking to most viewers, containing material many people would consider frightening and/or extremely distasteful and crude, generally of a pornographic, scatological, or extremely violent nature. In most cases, it displays a particular picture most prominently; some shock sites also show animations or galleries of images, particularly shock images.

Links to shock sites are often passed around via email or disguised in posts to discussion sites as a hoax in an attempt to trick readers into following the link to the website. Discussion site Slashdot has changed their software (Slash) to display the domain name of a linked URL in brackets following the link (example: "CLICK HERE [wikipedia.org]"), so that any link to goatse.cx or a similar shock site would be immediately visible as such. The change has been effective in reducing the number of links to shock sites even though people began to set up mirror sites and use public CGI redirect scripts run by sites such as Yahoo! or Slashdot itself in an attempt to circumvent the measure.

Major shock sites

Goatse.cx

Goatse.cx is one of the most well-known shock sites,[1][2] and perhaps the most infamous. The image which appears on the site's index, hello.jpg, depicts a man stretching his anus with his hands.

The site was taken down by the NIC .cx authority in January 2004[3], but there are several mirrors of the original site.

Best known mirror for the site at the moment is: http://goatse.ca

Tubgirl.com

Tubgirl.com was a redirect to a picture, tubgirl.jpg, containing a masked, naked woman lying in a bathtub, buttocks raised with her legs over her head, projecting a fountain of liquid from her anus. Before the launch of tubgirl.com, this image was featured in a rotten.com story "Fecal Japan"[citation needed] claiming that the subject matter is allegedly popular in Japan. The image displayed on tubgirl.com is marked as having been previously posted on consumptionjunction.com. The url address www.tubgirl.com now redirects to Consumption Junction, and displays the image with a "rate me" box, where viewers can rate the image from 1 to 10.[2]

Last Measure

Last Measure is a shock site that utilizes flash to spawn endless pop-ups featuring many well-known shock pictures as well as NSFW audio. It also attempts to forward the site's address through your mail application. Previous versions utilized javascript. Related sites Ljabuse.com and denisepaolucci.com were based upon GNAA's Last Measure shock site engine. They feature classic Last Measure images with crudely photoshopped faces of Denise Paolucci, a LiveJournal employee that heads up the Abuse team.[4]

Lemonparty.org

Lemonparty.org contains a picture, lemonparty.jpg, of three elderly men lying on a bed naked, engaged in kissing and oral sex. The site was defunct for a number of years, then restored.[5] It once had a link that stated "click here to wash your eyeballs", which led to a picture of a kitten. In addition, the background has turned gray and there are links below leading to the "Official lemonparty chatroom" and "Brad.com", another shock site. It now also features advertisements and the song "If You Want to be Happy" by Jimmy Soul plays in the background. The site often goes offline for short periods of time.[4]

Hai2U.com

Hai2u.com features an image of a woman vomiting while performing fellatio on a man sitting in a lawn chair, taken from a photo shoot by Max Hardcore. The actress uses the stage name Catalina and is featured in several of Hardcore's films. The site has the text "HAI2U!!!1 :)" in bold at the top of the page. The page is written in w3c validated XHTML 1.0 Transitional markup, and contains a link visible only in the Internet Explorer browser to make it your homepage. It was at one point highly ranked on a Google image search for "blowjob".[citation needed] [2]

Pork Hole Contains a picture of an elderely, obese man recieving oral sex from a man below him. Below the image is a chat room, with other website links. Below that is 3 other images, the first is a dwarf, and a capacious sized man holding his genitals. The picture to the right of it is of 2 men together in bed with gratifying expressions on their face. The last image is of an obese man sitting in a chair. Other shock sites

  • Teletorrents.org contains a picture of one man's hand immersed in a second man's anus. Large text below the picture reads "Surprise, asshole!". The domain of the site is purposely misleading, indicating that it contains BitTorrent files. External link: http://www.teletorrents.org
  • Brad.com Made by the same man who owns lemonparty.org. This has a flash video of 2 men 69ing.

Former shock sites

  • ShrewsburyCollege.co.uk was a site containing a photograph of two men, one being anally penetrated by the other with what appeared to be a bicycle pump. In addition to that, both were covered in feces. The name of the site was taken from the Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology, which used to be known by the acronym SCAT. The website has now been replaced by the actual Shrewsbury College website. This shock site was perhaps the only one to have appeared in a print newspaper, featuring in a front-page article of the Shrewsbury Chronicle in December 2005.[citation needed]

Anti-shock sites

In recent times, many trolls, instead of linking to shock sites (which can lead to disciplinary consequences, such as banishment from the board in which the link was posted), prefer a tradition known as the anti-shock tradition, where trolls link to traditionally non-offensive material, disguised as shocking or pornographic material. The anti-shock site oralse.cx (which features images of a kitten and dachshund), a parody of Goatse.cx, is among the most well-known examples of this, along with lemonparty.org.uk, a parody of Lemonparty.org (featuring cartoon lemons having a party). Also, Leekspin.com (a parody of Meatspin featuring Orihime Inoue from BLEACH flipping a leek around) exists. More recent cases of the anti-shock phenomenon involve links to images of family pets and to mary-kateandashley.com, the web site of the Olsen twins.
