Metroid Prime is a fictional creature can be found in the Nintendo Game Cube game of the same name.

Template:Spoiler It is the final boss in the game. Samus Aran, the star of Metroid Prime and the whole Metroid series, must kill Metroid Prime in order to finish the game. Metroid Prime can be found inside the meteorite that brought Phazon to Tallon IV, the setting of Metroid Prime (the game).

In the North American version of the game, the Space Pirates capture Metroid Prime, but in the European version they do not. Also, in the North American release, it is the Space Pirates who name Metroid Prime based on genetic similarities to the Metroids - since they do not capture it in the European release, it's not entirely clear how it got called Metroid Prime. The Chozo refer to it as the Worm.

Metroid Prime comes in two forms. In the first form, Metroid Prime changes color to indicate which weapon can be used to inflict damage. In the North American release, it is said that Prime got all of its high-tech weapons from the Space Pirates. Its weapons are never explained in the European release.

Eventually, it seems to die, but in fact merely sheds its old skin and becomes its second form, the "core essence" of the beast. While in its second form, Metroid Prime cannot be hurt by regular weapons. It will occasionally produce some Phazon, which can allow Samus to fire the Phazon Beam, the only weapon capable of damaging Metroid Prime. To make things more difficult, Metroid Prime will shift visibility and will only be visible by using one of Samus's special visors. It also spawns all three types of Metroids found in the game – the infamous jellyfish-like infant Metroids, the long-ranged Hunter Metroids, and the Fission Metroids. The type depends on Metroid Prime's damage – none are spawned when it is at full health, infants are spawned when it takes some damage, Hunters at medium damage, and Fissions at high damage.
