David Villa Sánchez (born December 3, 1981 in Langreo, Asturias, Spain) is a Spanish football player, who currently plays for Valencia CF and the Spain national football team. His usual positions are Striker and centre forward.
He started his career in UP Langreo in 1991. In 1999 he signed for Sporting de Gijón until he was signed in La Liga by Real Zaragoza in 2003. In 2005 he transferred to Valencia CF for 12million euros. From the beginning of the 2005/2006 season to April 2, he scored 18 goals in La Liga.
He was linked with an expensive move to Premiership side Liverpool F.C., but Liverpool were unable to secure his services.
In the 2005/06 season, he was in top form for Valencia, scoring 25 goals in 35 league matches, to finish one goal behind top scorer Samuel Eto'o of FC Barcelona. He scored his first hat trick for Valencia against Athletic Bilbao on 23 April 2006. A combination of clever play, extreme pace and lethal finishing make him Spain's first choice striker, currently eclipsing the great Raul.
