Hannes Olof Gösta Alfvén (1908-1995) was a Swedish astrophysicist. He was best known for his work in plasma physics, although he did notable work with solar phenomenon and aurorae as well. He won the Nobel Prize for his work with magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). MHD waves are also known as Alfvén waves.
