Milo, Lydia, Pepper Ann, Moose and Nicky

Pepper Ann was an animated series created by Sue Rose and shown in the United States on ABC. It debuted in September 1997.

Pepper Ann starred cartoon adolescents and charted their ups and downs at Hazelnut Middle School. It aired as part of Disney’s "One Saturday Morning" block, but Pepper Ann was very different from competing Disney star, Doug. Unlike her laid-back male counterpart, Pepper Ann was outgoing, headstrong, and a true free spirit. The twelve-year-old redhead knew what she wanted and went after it, cooking up any crazy scheme necessary to reach her goal.

Pepper Ann may have been excitable, but she was by no means a spoiled brat. She was generally well-liked at school, where she usually hung out with best friends Milo (a video game and pizza-loving artist of Hawaiian ancestry) and Nicky (a meek straight-A student and upstanding voice of reason). At home, Pepper Ann lived with her divorced mother Lydia, deep-voiced and rather tomboyish younger sister Margaret-Rose (known as "Moose"), her liberal activist Aunt Janie, policeman Uncle Jo Jo, and cousin Ned. One interesting fact about Pepper Ann is that she (and Moose) are half-Jewish. There was even an episode ('A Kosher Christmas') that featured her trying to choose between celebrating Hanukkah and Christmas.

Pepper Ann's fellow students included rich and spoiled Trinket, German boy Dieter Liederhosen, popular airhead Cissy, gossipy twins Tessa and Vanessa, Nicky's boyfriend, the RC CAR Racing Stuart, and the Cool Eighth Grader, Craig. Pepper had no real enemies except Principal Hickey, a tough disciplinarian with zero tolerance for Pepper Ann's shenanigans. Pepper Ann had a vivid imagination, which often got the best of her. When trouble reared its head, Pepper's emotions came out in Ally McBeal-like fantasies (the two shows actually debuted within a week of each other, so nobody stole anyone else's idea). Pepper Ann usually got advice from her conscience which is usually her reflection. Her favorite places to hang out were usually, Greezy n' Cheesy: The Pizza Place, Freezy Pleezy: the Ice Cream Parlor, The Burger Fortress and Brain Dead: the arcade.

One of the original segments of "One Saturday Morning", Pepper Ann was a hit with audiences. Pepper Ann was formerly shown on Toon Disney weekdays at 2:30pm E/P, but due to many things including the addition of JETIX, it has vanished completely off the network. Along with a number of other shows it was removed from schedules in November 2004 and has not been seen since. It is unknown if it will ever return, and as of now Disney is currently deciding on whether or not to release it on DVD.

Theme song

Who's that girl, what's her name,
Is she cool, is she lame?
(Oh, you're talking about whatshername...)
Pepper Ann! (Pepper Ann)

Is she lame, is she cool,
Is she breaking every rule,
Is she anybody's fool?
Pepper Ann! (Pepper Ann)

Pepper Ann, Pepper Ann,
Marching in her own parade
Pepper Ann, she's like one in a million!
Pepper Ann, Pepper Ann,
Much too cool for seventh grade
Catch her if you can, Pepper Ann!

(Who?)
(Is that that girl from gym class?)
(No, that's me...)
(Oohh...who is she, and WHY does she have her own song?)
(Did someone take my lunch?)

Pepper Ann, Pepper Ann,
Marching in her own parade
Pepper Ann, she's like one in a million!
Pepper Ann, Pepper Ann,
Much too cool for seventh grade
No one's cooler than Pepper Ann,
She's her own biggest fan, Pepper Ann,
Catch her if you can, Pepper Ann!
