Allendale, Michigan
Allendale is an unincorporated community located in Ottawa County, Michigan. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 11,555. The community is located within Allendale Charter Township and consists of about the northern two thirds of the township, from the eastern boundary with the Grand River west along Pierce St., north along 75th Ave., then west along Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) to the western boundary of the township.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 61.5 km² (23.7 mi²). 59.1 km² (22.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.79% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 11,555 people, 2,864 households, and 1,913 families residing in the community. The population density is 195.4/km² (506.1/mi²). There are 3,016 housing units at an average density of 51.0/km² (132.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 93.22% White, 2.97% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 3.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,864 households out of which 38.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 16.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.36.
In the community the population is spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 43.1% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 9.6% from 45 to 64, and 4.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 21 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.6 males.
The median income for a household in the community is $46,671, and the median income for a family is $58,371. Males have a median income of $39,038 versus $25,146 for females.
