Huntsville Prison is the oldest prison in the state of Texas and houses the death chamber. The prison is located on 815 12th Street in Huntsville.

However, unlike other facilities in other states, death row is not located here. It was formerly located at the nearby Ellis Unit, but escapes from the aging unit led the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to relocate death row to a newer, specially designed "supermax" unit.
