The following is a list of minor characters in the manga and anime series One Piece:

Alvida

Alvida (アルビダ Arubida) is (or rather was) an extremely obese woman who is in charge of the Alvida Pirates Crew. She sees herself as the most beautiful lady in all of the 4 Seas; if someone disagrees, she will smash the offender with an iron club. She imprisoned Koby to be her cabin boy after he boarded her ship by accident. Disliking filth and laziness, her crew is forced to clean the entire deck, if there is even a hint of dust she will once again smash the offender with her club. She is defeated by Monkey D. Luffy in the beginning of the manga and anime, but she later comes back with the power of the Slip Slip (Sube Sube) Fruit, in context with the word suberin, a fat found in cells. The Slip Slip fruit makes Alvida skinny, smooth and sexy, and immune to most attacks as they just slip off. In Roguetown, she helps Buggy the Clown attempt to execute Luffy, but fails once more. She is currently with Buggy somewhere in the Grand Line, last seen near Skull Island.

She carries a bounty of 5 million belli.

In the Japanese Anime, she is voiced by Yōko Matsuoka. In the English dub, she is voiced by Kathleen Delaney.

Aisa

File:Onepiece aisa.JPG
Aisa.

Aisa (アイサ) is a small girl from the Skypiea arc. Since she was born, she could sense (via "mantra") whenever anyone dies or is severely wounded. Although initially wanting to kill the Straw Hat Pirates, she later befriends them (especially Nami and Luffy).

Amazon

The elderly gatekeeper of Skypiea. She lets people in even if they can't pay her toll, but purposely fails to tell those that don't pay about the consequences for entering the city.

Banchi

Banchi is a giant turtle used by Miss All-Sunday for transportation. He was also used to transport the officer agents of the Baroque Works from Spider's cafe to the Rainbase. He can be seen with a cowboy hat on his head and a cigarette in his mouth.

Baskerville

Three-Headed Baskerville (3つ首のバスカビル Mittsu-Kubi no Basukabiru) is the gigantic, three-headed Chief Justice (裁判長 Saibanchō) on the island of Enies Lobby, in the service of the World Government and the Navy. He is a walking tribunal, and each of his three heads has a mind of its own: On the left and controllng the left hand is Left Baskerville, on the right and controlling the right hand is Right Baskerville, and in the middle is Center Baskerville, who prefers to call himself such things as "Center Freeway" and "Center Lone Mainline" instead of his actual name. In addition, each head has a distinct personality, and legal opinions to match: for example, Left Baskerville is in favor of punishing the Straw Hat Pirates because they are criminals, while Right Baskerville takes the opposite viewpoint and recommends letting them go. Center Baskerville, as his self-styled nicknames suggest, is a wild card: he consistently offers the "compromise" of execution, which is more extreme than either of the other two heads' viewpoints. This leads to Left and Right Baskerville yelling at him.

Recently, it has been revealed that Baskerville is actually three people. Center Baskerville is a man with very large legs but small arms, and Left and Right have very large arms but small legs. Left and Right actually sit on Center's thighs. Right's real name is Bas, Left's real name is Kerville, and Center calls himself Princess.

Eiichirō Oda seems to have drawn from a number of British sources as inspiration for Baskerville. The character's name comes from the famous Sherlock Holmes novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Oda also paid homage to the novel by having Baskerville's elite subordinates direct packs of military canines. Baskerville himself appears to be based substantially on the Three-Headed Knight in the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which shares a general resemblance in costume and argues with itself in much the same manner as Baskerville does. Combined with the character's speech quirks and stereotypical British faces (particularly that of Right Baskerville), it seems abundantly clear that the idea for Baskerville was inspired by sources from the United Kingdom.

Belle-Mère

File:Bscap063belle.jpg
Belle-Mère, one of the few female naval marines appearing in the anime One Piece.

Belle-Mère (ベルメール Berumēru; belle-mère is French for "stepmother") was Nami and Nojiko's adoptive mother, seen in a flashback during the Arlong arc. It is said that in her youth she was as rambunctious and mischievous as Nami was as a child. Belle-Mère raised the two girls after they found her near death after a fight between naval marines (of which Belle-Mère was one) and pirates that left their home island in ruins.

While Belle-Mère had very little income, she gave everything to her girls and survived by eating the mandarin oranges she grew. One day Belle-Mère scolded Nami when she got caught stealing (Nami stole a book because she knew they were poor). Nami wouldn't acknowledge the three of them as a real family, and ran off, saying that she wished she were adopted by rich people.

That same day Arlong invaded the island and found her home, Belle-Mère tried to fend them off but was quickly subdued. When asked for the fee needed to stay alive, it turned out all the money Belle-Mère had would either save herself or her two daughters. Things would've been okay, as Arlong was unaware of the two girls' existence, but Belle-Mère gave it to her two girls as she would rather have died than not call herself a mother. To that end, Arlong shot her right in front of the eyes of her two adopted daughters, but not before Belle-Mère apologized to Nami for not being richer, and not being able to buy the girls whatever they wanted. With that, she said her final words to the girls: "I love you."

In the English version of the anime, she is sent to the dungeon for not paying her fee and is killed off screen.

Japanese voice: Noriko Hidaka.

Ben Beckman

File:Aabennnn.jpg
Ben Beckman.

Ben Beckman is the first mate in Red-Haired Shanks' pirate crew. When first seen in the manga and anime, he wears his black hair in a ponytail, and is never seen without his rifle nearby or a cigar in his mouth. Later on in the series, his hair has turned gray and is cut short, and he has a large X-shaped scar on his left temple.

Ben tends to use his rifle more like a club than an actual gun.

Billions

These are henchmen working under the Officer agents in the Baroque Works. There are 200 Billions.

Big Pan

A member of Foxy the Silver Fox's pirate crew who fights in the Groggy Ring portion of the Davy Back Fight. He is a wotan, a half-fishman, half-gaint. His half-fish species is mudfish.

Boodle

Boodle is the mayor of the town that was attacked by Buggy the Clown early on in the series. He wears a suit of armor, and is quite fearless, risking his life (though he is outmatched) for the sake of his town. With the help of Luffy, Zoro and Nami (and you could count the help of the dog Chouchou), Boodle is able to defeat Buggy's crew and drive them out of the town.

In the anime, Mayor Boodle is voiced by Jōji Yanami. In the English, he's voiced by Michael Sinterniklaas.

Braham

One of the Shandoran warriors fighting to take back Upperyard from Eneru, he loses to Zoro in the survival game. He uses guns that produce a bright flash so his opponents can't see the bullets come at them.

Cabaji

File:Agenzdsdsooa.jpg
The acrobat Cabaji.

Cabaji (カバジ) is the second mate in Buggy's crew as well as their primary swordman who combines it with acrobatics (mostly on a unicycle) to fight his enemies. He fights with Roronoa Zoro no sooner than after being introduced and plays dirty by kicking Zoro's wounds whenever he has the chance. But once Cabaji is knocked off his unicycle, he is easily defeated.

After Buggy's crew was defeated by Luffy, he fought with the 'other' first mate Mohji for the title for the next captain--both were knocked out by a sleepwalking Richie, who gained the title (though lost it just as quick). After Buggy resurfaced, they tracked the Straw Hats to Loguetown (RogueTown in the English dub) where he helped ambush and try to kill Luffy. But that too ended in failure and the crew was forced to escape.

Cabaji is still sailing around the Grand Line with Buggy and his crew.

Calgara

Calgara (カルガラ Karugara) was a hero of the Shandians who lived while Skypiea was still a part of Jaya (some 400 years ago), and who befriended the explorer Montblanc Norland (the ancestor of Montblanc Cricket) . A statue of him was erected after his death as an eternal reminder to the Shandians of his strength and courage, and the Shandian warrior Wiper is a direct descendant of his.

Originally, Shandians were a viciously xenophobic tribe, and tried to kill Norland's crew immediately, especially after Norland killed a giant snake that the Shandians considered their god (Norland killed it to save the life of a sacrifial offering to the snake, who happened to be Calgara's daughter). However, Norland gained their trust and Calgara's friendship by curing a disease that was plagueing their tribe. Their friendship went as far as Calgara showing Norland the fabled city of gold, and sharing the wealth fully.

However, some tensions ran between the two when Norland cut down an entire forest, whose trees the Shandians believed to hold the souls of their ancestors. Norland did so because the trees were the source of the disease that plagued the Shandians in the first place, and decided to leave anyway, as he and his crew were once again seen as outsiders. However, Calgara realized the truth too late, as Norland's crew was already on their boat, and leaving.

This didn't stop Calgara though, and he ran the golden bell that first attracted Norland to Jaya, promising that he would wait for Norland's return. Sadly that was not to be as one faithful day, the part of the island they were on was shot into the air by the Knock Up stream and into Skypiea where it attracted the attention of the "god" of that timeline who then proceeded to attack it and the Shandians to claim it as his own.

Though its never revealed how Calgara met his end, the last seen of him was shouting to his warriors that they must protect the land so their friend Norland can return.

Carne

Carne is one of the main cooks from the floating restaurant ship, Baratie, and is good friends with Patty since both applied for restaurant cooks together. He and Patty became very essential in defending the Baratie when Don Krieg attempted to take the restaurant by force.

Like most of the Baratie's cooking staff, Carne prides himself on being a fighting chef; when the restaurant comes under attack by the Krieg armada, he and the other chefs take up arms to defend it.

In the 4Kids dub, Carne is voiced by Sean Schemmel, and is given a very heavy Mexican accent not unlike Cheech Marin. In Japanese, he is voiced by Shinobu Satouchi.

Carne is a Spanish word for Meat which is one of Luffy's favourite foods.

Chabo

A young boy from Gosa village, he wanted to kill Arlong to avenge his father's death, but Nami paid him and told him to leave. He attacked Usopp, thinking that Usopp was a fishman, but Nojiko stopped him. He later called the Navy to come rescue the suvivers from Gosa but they were defeated by Arlong's crew

Chaka

Chaka is one of two head guards in the Alabasta kingdom that serve under Igaram, the other being Pell. He ate the Inu Inu Fruit: Jackal Model, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a jackal or a human/jackal hybrid. He tried to save Princess Vivi from Sir Crocodile outside of the Alubarna palace, but Crocodile easily defeated him.

Attacks

  • Nari Kiba (Howling Fang) - Chaka tranforms into his half human/half jackel form and uses a high speed lunge to attack with his sword.

Chuu

File:Bscap0chu69.jpg
Chuu.

A member of Arlong's Fish-Man pirate crew. In the Japanese version, he has a habit of saying "chu" (an onomatopoeic kissing-noise) after each sentence. Chuu is one of the more cool-headed officers in Arlong's crew and can spit water out of his mouth as if it were a bullet. He later fights with the apparently-outmatched Usopp, but he is ultimately beaten after Usopp wears him down by running away and setting him on fire, before repeatedly hitting him over his head with his Usopp Hammer to knock him out.

Attacks

  • Water Gun - Chuu shoots water out of his mouth with the force of a bullet.
  • Water Cannon - Fire a huge cannonball like shot of water from his mouth (destroys a large chunk of forest Usopp hides in).
  • Water Machine gun - Chuu rapidly shoots a large numbet of water gun "bullets" from his mouth.

Chess

A member of Wapol's, the king of Drum Island, crew. He, along with Kuromarimo act as guards to Wapol. Chess is also a skilled archer. Wapol used his Munch Munch Powers to fuse Chess and Kuromarimo after swallowing them.

Attacks

  • Checkmate: Chess shoots a flaming arrow at his opponent. This attack makes a great combo attack with Kuromarimo's Eleki-Marimo attack because the afros he attaches make easy targets and increase this attack's damage.

Chessmarimo

After Chess and Kuromarimo were merged (by Wapol) they became a stronger warrior with 4 arms, 2 heads (making them look slighty deformed) and many weapons which allow them to use their powers to the full extent (arrows, hammers, axes). He was defeated by Chopper (using his Rumble Ball). His weakness (which was scanned by Chopper's ability to search out foe's weakness) is the section under the lower (Chess's part of the body) head (his chin). It is unknown what happened to him after Chopper defeated him.

Attacks

  • Yukidoke no Ya Marimo (Snow-thawing arrow Marimo) - Chessmarimo fires two giant burning arrows with his four hands, each with one of Muromarimo's afros on the end for extra power.
  • Dobikkuri Marimo, Quatro Hammer (Super Surprise Marimo, Four Hammers) - Chessmarimo wields four large wooden mallets (one in each hand) and uses them to bash the opponent senseless.
  • Bikkuri Marimo, Quatro Axe (Surprise Marimo, Four Axes) - Pretty much the samething as the last attack except with axes instead of mallets.
  • Yukiwarisou (Snow-cutting Grass) - After using his Bikkuri Marimo, Quatro Axe technique Chessmarimo makes an X shaped cleve with all four axes the sends a slicing shockwave along its path.
  • Happou Yukidare (Snow Falling from all directions) - After using his Bikkuri Marimo, Quatro Axe technique Chessmarimo charges at his opponent slicing and slashing wildly.

Chimney

Chimney is the hyperactive granddaughter of Sea Train conductor Kokoro, and owner of the rabbit, Gonbe (which thinks it's a cat). She takes a liking to the Straw Hat Pirates instantly when the crew meets her outside of Water Seven. She also tends to notice things that others cannot, such as when she spotted Luffy wedged between two buildings (which is where he landed after Rob Lucci knocked him out of Galley-La Corporation Headquarters). She, along with Gonbe, later sneak aboard the prototype Sea Train, Rocketman, and accompany the Straw Hats, Franky Family, and Galley-La foremen to Enies Lobby. Recently, she and Gonbe led Luffy to the reinforced door that Spandam and Robin went through. Luffy broke through it using his Gear 3. Currently she is leading Franky to the Gate of Justice to rescue Nico Robin.

Chōchō

A dog from Orange Village who guards a pet shop, day and night, unmoving, as it belonged to his dead master. But, still being loyal to his master, a friend of mayor Boodle, Chōchō kept guard over the pet shop.

When first meeting Monkey D. Luffy, Chōchō swallowed the key to cage Luffy was in at the time. Then Mohji and Richie appeared to search for Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. When Richie spotted the pet shop they headed for it to get a quick snack. Chōchō fought against Richie to defend the shop, but got beaten. In the end, he could only watch his master's pet shop burn to the ground. Luffy, out of his cage thanks to Richie, saw how sad the dog was for the loss of his only treasure, and defeated Mohji and Richie as payback for Chōchō. After the battle, Luffy presented Chōchō with a bag of dog food, the last one from his master's shop. Chōchō later helps the trio escape from the angry townspeople after Luffy reveals that he was the one who knocked out the mayor, as well as a pirate. Chōchō is last spotted in Buggy's mini story in volume 5. Chōchō is shown biting Richie.

Chuchuun

A giant South Blue bird Itomimizu rides on.

Clover

A professor and scholar from the Tree of Knowledge in Ohara, he helped Nico Robin become an official archaeologist. However, he forbade her from studying Ohara's Poneglyph, not wanting her to fall prey to the government like her mother Olivia did. Sadly, it was not to be as the government found out about Ohara's research and dispatched the CP9 to take care of them. Clover tried to persuade Robin to escape as the CP9 rounded the archaeologists up. The reason for this is that Clover spoke to the government regarding the scholar's findings in the Poneglyphs. He didn't want Robin to know those results, lest she be targeted by the government.

Clover stated that before the government was formed, The Grand Line was ruled by an ancient kingdom, but they were wiped out by a group that would one day become the government. However before Clover could reveal the name, he was shot and mortally wounded. The Buster Call was then initated by the government and Ohara began to be destroyed by Navy ships. Clover, along with Oliva and the other scholars, stayed behind and save as many books as they can from the Tree of Knowledge for future generations. Afterwards he and the scholars all stayed in the tree as it burned down around them, and as Ohara was destroyed.

Corgi

A government official who tries to get Iceburg to hand over the blueprint of the Pluton. But is denied and is seen leaving in a huff. He is later seen watching the CP9 and Robin board the train. He was later knocked out by Sogeking(Usopp) during a rescue attempt.

Crocus

Laboon's caretaker and overseer of the lighthouse that guides ships coming down from Reverse Mountain into the Grand Line. He is the one who explains to the Straw Hats how the Grand Line works, about Log Poses (Grand Compasses in the English version), Raftel (the last island of the Grand Line and supposed resting place of One Piece) and Laboon's situation. He also has a house inside Laboon when he's not working the lighthouse. He may have had a past connection with Gold Roger. He was removed from the English dub.

Dalton

During Wapol's rule over the Drum Kingdom, Dalton was a militia commander in his army. However he sercetly hated the way Wapol neglected his people, even more so after Wapol took the best 20 doctors for his own in a scheme to make people beg for his mercy. After seeing Hirluk's noble sacrifice, he turned against Wapol. But was subdued and thrown in prison, constantly mocked by Wapol and his henchmen, Chess and Kuromarimo. After Wapol abandoned his kingdom after Blackbeard's invasion. Dalton took charge and kept the island from falling into disarry, soon gaining the trust of the people. Even after Wapol returned and once again subded him, the people and even the top 20 doctors continued to help out Dalton. And he in turn them, even almost going to extreme measures such as planning to blow up Wapol's castle. Luckily Luffy defeated Wapol and knocked him out of the kingdom. Afterwhich, the people of Drum elected Dalton as their new king and renamed the island, Sakura Kingdom (inspiried from the special chemical created by Hilruk, which turned the snow pink). Dalton also has the power of the Ushi Ushi (Ox Ox) fruit, a zoan type fruit that allows him to turn into a giant Ox beast.

See: Dalton for more.

Dorry & Broggy

The two legendary giants who fight an endless battle on Little Garden, an island in the Grand Line. Each giant has a bounty of 100,000,000 beri on their heads. The two of them battle with incredible passion and drive, the rules of Giant combat dicatating the fight must be fought to the death, though neither of them really remember why they started fighting in the first place (It was over a dispute on who had caught a larger prize on a hunting expedition).

Doctor Blackbeard

A character in the Ace mini-story. Ace mistook him for Blackbeard and rammed him to the ground. When Ace saw his mistake he was thrown into the river by an angry Doctor Blackbeard and an angry cook that Ace did not pay.

Doc Q

Doc Q (ドクQ Doku Kyū) is member of Blackbeard's pirate crew. He is their doctor, though ironically, he has a sick body and needs his horse, Stronger (who is just as sick) to get around. He meets Luffy, Zoro, and Nami during the Jaya arc, while in Mock Town. After the Straw Hats help him get back on his horse, he offers Luffy an apple from the basket he is carrying. Unbeknownst to Luffy, Doc Q had been offering explosive apples to other pirates in Mock Town, who would then explode once they ate it. Luckily for Luffy, he picks a dud, and Doc Q tells him he is very lucky before riding off.

Django

File:Jango Small.jpg
Django.

Django (ジャンゴ Jango) is the first mate and hypnotist of Captain Kuro. He uses disks that double as chakrams to hypnotize people to his advantage in battle. "Django" is the spelling used by the United States version of One Piece released in the U.S. Shonen Jump by Viz. Many fans familiar with the Japanese version prefer the spelling "Jango".

Django wears strange clothes, including a long coat covered in the disks he uses to fight and hypnotize, and red-lensed heart-shaped glasses. (Later, his eyes were revealed to be heart-shaped) It can be assumed that his character was based on Michael Jackson, as when he travels he usually moonwalks, and he uses flashy gestures similar to Michael Jackson's dance moves. Other notable similarities can be put between his trench coat and his heart-shaped sunglasses, not to mention the socks, gloves, and almost-Jacksonlike facial features (the thin nose, etc.).

Django possesses the power of hypnosis, which he uses to put people to sleep, to make Captain Kuro's crew far more powerful and fierce and to serve other purposes necessary to help fulfil Captain Kuro's plans. Captain Kuro is believed to be dead due to a Navy sailor (Morgan) who Django hypnotised into bringing in a member of Captain Kuro's crew, who he had hypnotised into believing he was Captain Kuro. This false Captain Kuro was then executed, causing the world to believe Captain Kuro to be dead. He is not, however, perfect with his hypnosis - when he puts people to sleep, he usually falls asleep as well. And when he hypnotizes the crew to make them stronger, he also accidentally hypnotizes Monkey D. Luffy - with unpleasant results.

Django is ordered by Kuro to kill Kaya, but before he can kill her, Usopp hits him with his exploding stars. Django is thought dead, but secretly survives. Through many adventures and lots of hypnosis, he ends up a Navy recruit, working alongside the disgraced Ironfist Fullbody, under the command of Hina (whom they both adore).

According to the answer to some fan mail Eichiro Oda received, Django gained his powers after eating a mushroom that had grown on his chin while he was sleeping. He only ate the cap and the trunk of the mushroom still resides on his chin (Whether or not this is a joke from Eiichiro Oda or not is yet to be proven).

Django's current bountry is 9,000,000 beli

In the original Japanese, he is voiced by Kazuki Yao.

Dragon

File:Dragon (One Piece) (photo).jpg
Dragon.

Dragon is one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece to this date. He is mentioned once as a revolutionary in the flashback of the Drum Island Arc of six years ago (chapter 142 of the manga). In that flashback, it was told that during the World Government's meeting at Marejois, it was said that in a few years, he would be a threat to the world. He makes an appearance to save Luffy from being decapitated by Buggy and being captured by Smoker. He is high on the World Government's wanted list, and looks incredibly powerful. The exact details of his abilities are unknown, but he seems to be able to control the weather, creating thunderstorms, rain spells and summoning winds that are strong enough to blow people away like puppets. One theory speculates that the reason he is called Dragon is because he consumed a Devil Fruit with dragon capabilities; this would explain his weather controlling ability.

Franky Family

The Franky Family is a group of ship dismantlers and bounty hunters, brought together under the leadership of Cutty Flam (better known as Franky). They are the outcasts of Water 7, those whose dream was to work for Iceburg in the Galley-La Corporation, but who weren't good enough at shipbuilding to be hired. As a result, they had nowhere else to turn, other than to Franky (who also considers himself something of a failure). Though they do cause some trouble to the citizens of Water 7, they are good at heart. The entire Franky Family are tottally inept at saving money for a long period of time and on more than one occasion wasted millions of hard-earned (sometimes stolen) berries for the sake of spending (though their leader isn't exactly a market planner himself).

During the starting chapters of the Water 7 arc, they first encounter the Straw Hat Pirates, and beat up Usopp in order to steal the money he was carrying for Nami and Luffy. Usopp pursues the Franky Family and confronts them for the money, only to be severely beaten once more. When Luffy finds out it was the Franky Family who committed the act, he, Zoro, Sanji and Chopper single-handedly defeat the entire group (except for Franky and the Square Sisters, who were off the island), and destroy the Franky House, their hideout. Clamoring for revenge, Franky would attempt to get revenge on Luffy, only for the three-way battle between him, Luffy, and the Galley-La foremen to end in a draw. Later on in the story, the group encounters the CP9 agency and are forced to reveal their second hideout, where Franky is hidden. When Franky is kidnapped, the Franky Family forms an alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates (who are chasing after Nico Robin), in order to rescue him. This turns out to be a wise move as once on Enies Lobby, the Judicial Island, the Frankies help fight off the countless naval marines and government agents that come after them. Their King Bulls, Sodom and Gomorrah, prove instrumental in helping them make their way across the island to the entrance to the main island.

Gaimon

Gaimon is a character that gets his body imprisoned in an empty treasure chest after he loses his grip while scaling a small cliff on the mysterious Island of Rare Animals (Gold Island in the English anime) trying to find some treasure with his pirate crew. The crew leaves Gaimon stranded on the island. The treasure chest becomes his body and cannot be removed, however, he can still use his hands, head and feet. It takes 20 years for another person to find him.

After Gaimon shrinks when he gets stuck in the chest, he can no longer scale the cliff. He has to protect his treasures somehow, so he would use his gun and his spooky voice to drive away intruders. Monkey D. Luffy and the whole crew passes the trial and they begin to become friends. However, when Luffy finally gets to the top of the cliff, Gaimon realized that the treasure chests were empty too and he had been protecting a nonexistent "treasure" for 20 years. Then, he considers the animals as his treasures, and vows to protect them.

Chibi Buggy eventually meets, and befriends, Gaimon in the "Special Cover Miniseries".

Eiichirō Oda has stated that Gaimon is his favorite character to draw.

Gaimon is voiced by Toru Ohira in the original anime.

Genbō

Genbō (ゲンボウ) is one of the Shandian warriors fighting to take back Upperyard from Enel, using a big bazooka as weapon. He loses to Yama in the survival game.

Genzo

File:Agenzooa.jpg
Genzo.

The sheriff and mayor of Coco Village (Cocoyashi Village in the Japanese version), which is Nami's home. He has had close ties with Nami and Nojiko since they were kids and he knew their adoptive mother, Belle-Mère, quite well. He also kept the town together after Arlong took over the island, making sure everyone was safe and able to pay Arlong's tax.

Genzo wears a pinwheel on his hat because he used to make Nami laugh when she was a baby (this pinwheel also inspired an attack for Luffy during their fight with Arlong). He played a role in rescuing Luffy after Arlong threw him into the ocean. All of Genzo's scars are from his first encounter with Arlong when he tried to stop Arlong from taking Nami, Arlong cut everypart of his body with a sword. He was also almost killed by Arlong for hording swords, until Usopp saved him.

Genzo's pinwheel inspired Nami's new tattoo--a pinwheel to represent him with a tangerine to represent Belle-Mère.

In the American dub of One Piece, Genzo has a thick Itallian accent.

Gin

Gin, known as Ghin in the English anime, is Don Krieg's right hand man. Gin is given a plate of food by Sanji for free when Gin is starving on the Baratie. When Don Krieg's forces come to take over the Baratie, Gin is ordered to kill Sanji. Gin, a person who had tortured and killed countless others with his weighted tonfas, could not bring himself to kill Sanji (Sanji is the only person to ever treat Ghin to an act of kindness). For this, Gin is punished by Don Krieg, who orders him to drop his gas mask while Krieg releases the deadly poison MH5. They find he was always stronger than Kreig and was only living in his shadow, but despite this brush with death, Gin survives, and carries away the defeated Don Krieg (along with the rest of the crew) in a small boat.

The Japanese word gin (銀), pronounced with a hard "g", literally means "silver", but an "h" was added to the spelling in the English dub. This was probably done because the name's visual similarity to the English word "gin", and the likelihood of it being mispronounced as such.

Gonbe

Chimney's pet rabbit that she always mistakes for a cat.

Goro

Toto's brother and Kohza's uncle in the Gedatsu mini-story. His dream was to open a hot springs resort, and he was able to do that with Gedatsu's help.

Grandpa

Nothing is known about Luffy's grandfather. He only appeared in a 1997 ad for One Piece in Weekly Shonen Jump. Luffy's Grandfather was also featured in Eiichiro Oda's pilot version of the chapter Romance Dawn; originally, Luffy's Grandfather, a Pirate Captain in his own right, gave Luffy his strawhat when Luffy began his own pirate adventures. Luffy's Grandfather was also responsible for providing Luffy with the Gomu-Gomu Fruit, which Luffy consumed to gain his signature stretching power. This was re-written for the actual series, however, in which both the Gomu-Gomu fruit and straw hat belonged to Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy's idol and role-model. He apparently is in the main story, however, as Aokiji mentioned him during his first meeting with the Straw Hats, which makes Luffy nervous when his Grandpa was brought up. If this is the same Grandpa from the pilot or another version remains to be seen. Two popular suspects for Luffy's Grandpa are Gol D. Roger and Jaguar D. Saul.

Hamburg

A member of Foxy the Silver Fox's pirate crew. He is a huge monkey like human who is almost always seen laughing. He likes to help Foxy cheat during the Davy Fight Back but is beaten by one of Sanji's new kicks in the groggy ring event.

Hatchan (Hachi)

File:Aahachiiii.jpg
Hatchan.

Hatchan (called "Hachi" by most characters) is a member of Arlong's Fish-Man pirate crew. Hatchan is not very bright but an excellent swordsman, using rokutōryū ("six sword style"). He fights with Zoro during the Arlong arc. Despite Zoro suffering a fever and severe blood loss from his unhealed wounds (which he got eariler fighting Mihawk), Hatchan is still defeated by him. Later in the manga (in a title page arc that was never animated), Hatchan goes on many adventures, which end up in him opening a floating takoyaki restaurant (which is ironic, considering he is an octopus).

"Hachi" translates to 'eight' in Japanese, the same number of legs an octopus has. "Hatchan" adds the diminutive suffix "-chan" to "hachi," giving it the approximate meaning of "little eight".

Hatchan is another example for some strange translation in Animes. In the German version of the Anime he was named Octa (from Octopus) and not only voiced by a woman but also made female. This is simliar to character Renamon from Digimon 3 who is a female in the original but male in the German version.

Higuma the Bear

During the childhood of Monkey D. Luffy (covered in the first chapter of the manga and a flashback early on in the anime), Higuma was a mountain bandit, leader of a band of similar bandits. The band swept into the town where Luffy lived and demanded grog, only to find that the last of it had been purchased by Red-Haired Shanks and his crew. Higuma personally insulted Shanks before storming out of the town; while Shanks laughed it off, Luffy was furious that Higuma had disrespected his hero.

Shortly afterward, while Shanks's crew was out on a voyage, Higuma and his band returned to town. While drinking at the same pub where they'd caused trouble before, Higuma insulted Shanks behind his back - and in earshot of Luffy. Infuriated, Luffy attacked the bandit, only to be thrown down and beaten by the entire group of bandits. Undaunted, Luffy insulted Higuma, and the bandit tried to kill him.

He was interrupted by the return of Shanks and his crew. Seeing what the bandits were doing to Luffy, the pirates attacked and defeated them, driving most of them back into the mountains.

Higuma, though, had escaped with Luffy in tow. He set out to sea, reasoning that given his attitude towards pirates, no one would look for him on the water. He then kicked Luffy out to sea, knowing the boy couldn't swim due to the Devil Fruit curse.

Immediately afterward, however, a Sea King rose from the waters. Higuma, terrified, could do nothing as the creature destroyed his boat and devoured the bandit with one bite.

Before his death, Higuma bragged about having an 8,000,000-berry bounty on his head; he carried his own "Wanted" poster to prove it. This is the first mention of bounties in the manga.

Hiruluk

File:Adoctorssda.jpg
Doctor Hiruluk.

Hiruluk (Hiriluk in the English anime) was a quack doctor from Drum Island and Tony Tony Chopper's father figure. After Wapol declared any doctor not under his rule to be outlaws, he and doctor Kureha were the only free doctors left. However, unlike Kureha, Hiruluk ended up doing more damage than good to his patients by accident.

He found Chopper one day while traveling home in a blizzard. At first Chopper tried to knock him away, but Hiruluk earned his trust by stripping naked in the cold, showing that he didn't have any weapons and had no intent on hurting Chopper. From then on, the two slowly formed a sort of father/son relationship, traveling (and in a way terrorizing) the island trying to cure patients. After one year had passed, Hiruluk reluctantly kicked Chopper out of his house, the reason being that he was going to die from a terminal illness (possibly tuberculosis). Hiruluk didn't want his friend to worry about him. After Chopper learned the truth, he went on a journey for an Amiudake mushroom. (Hiruluk had always called the skull and crossbones pirate emblem a symbol of vitality and Chopper took this to heart, not realizing that the crossbones symbol in the medicine book he read meant the mushroom was poisonous.) Sadly, unknown to the reindeer, the mushroom turned out be poisonous but Hiruluk took it anyway knowing this, because he is so impressed by Choppers pure and innocent will.

Afterward, Hiruluk heard news that Wapol's top 20 doctors were sick and rushed to the castle, only to find out it was a trap by Wapol to draw Hiruluk out and kill him. Hiruluk however, was thankful everyone was alright and instead killed himself by drinking an explosive potion, but not before thanking Chopper for a wonderful life just as Chopper was about to reach the castle.

Also, Hiruluk's main dream was to cure the people of island of their frozen hearts, which was made a reality years later. Kureha and the people of Drum would use Hiruluk's final invention, a special chemical to allow cherry blossoms to bloom in the snow. (In his early days, Hiruluk was a thief who was diagnosed with a fatal illness. What he believed cured him was the serene vision of a grove of cherry trees.)

Holy

Holy (ホーリー Hōrī) is a huge, pale yellow dog that Ohm taught to box and stand on two feet. Holy is very loyal to Ohm, and is a powerful fighter who, oddly enough, knows martial arts. However, he isn't particularly smart, and will obey almost anyone: when Zoro fought against it, Zoro told it to "stay," which it did. Realizing it would obey him, he then told Holy to "hit yourself on the head and take a little nap", and Holy did just that, thereby defeating himself.

Hotori and Kotori

The two brothers of Satori, one of Skypiea's Priests. They attack the Going Merry Go while it is traveling toward Upper Yard and fight against Nami and Gan Fall, by whom they are both defeated.

Igaram

Captain of the royal guards, he is Chaka and Pell's boss. He and Princess Vivi infiltrated Baroque Works and manage to ranked their way into Frontier Agents in order to learn the organization's true boss and objectives. He was known as Mr. 8 by most of the Baroque Works before being exposed. Igaram fights with a saxophone that shoots bullets when played, and he also has small guns hidden in his hair that fire when he pulls on his neck tie. After he and Vivi were found out, he dressed up as Vivi to act as decoy while the Straw Hats helped Vivi get back to Alabasta. But Nico Robin (Miss All Sunday at the time) blew up his ship and he was presumed dead. Least till near end of the Alabasta arc, where he reemerged alive and well and carrying a witness, Kappa, who saw the Baroque Works ploy to stir the already agitated rebels into war against the kingdom. He was last seen decoying as Vivi once more, during a speech to the people of Alabasta, so she could sneak away secretly to say goodbye to the Straw-Hats.

Attacks

  • Igarappa: Igaram's Attack using his saxaphone, when he uses it the saxaphone fires a blast of bullets like a giant shotgun.
  • Igarappappa: This is the attack where he pulls the loops of his necktie to fire the gun barrels hidden in the curls of his hair.

Iceburg

Iceburg is the founder of the Galley-La Shipbuilding Corporation, and the mayor of the City of Water, Water Seven. He was also an apprentice to Tom, the legendary Fish-Man shipwright who built the Oro (Gold) Jackson, Gold Roger's ship, and the Sea Train, a ship that runs on floating tracks. He later employed shipwrights with talents both in carpentry and fighting, and therefore, able to eradicate any pirate threat which endangered his company or city. Later, he was pressed by government organization CP9 to hand over the blueprints for the ancient warship Pluton, which Tom had been keeping in secret.

The spelling "Iceburg" (with a "u" instead of a second "e") is how this character's named appears in the One Piece manga. The spelling "Iceberg" is still frequently seen among fans.

Ironfist Fullbody

Ironfist Fullbody is the minister of the navy. When Luffy and the crew first meet him, he is a customer at the ocean-going restaurant Baratie. He insults Yosaku and Johnny who attack him, but are quickly defeated. He then proceeds to fire a cannonball at the Going merry that Luffy accidentally rebounds on Baratie. This causes Luffy to be forced to work without pay for Chef Zeff for an entire year. Later, Ironfist gets mad at Sanji for insulting him and hitting on his girlfriend and Sanji retaliates by beating him up. This introduces Sanji as a fit character to join Luffys crew. Later Ironfist Fullbody shows up at Alabastia working with the Navy to capture the Straw Hat pirates. However, they are deterred by Mr. 2 Bon Clay.

Isshi 20

The Isshi 20 are the twenty most skilled doctors of Drum Island ("isha" means "doctor"), whom Wapol took for himself in order to make his subjects grovel at his feet for their services. While they were under Wapol's control, they secretly despised him as the rest of the people did, but gave in to the King in order to continue their research and refine their technique, which they hoped to one day use to help their compatriots. After Wapol was defeated, they were forgiven by the people of the island and rejoined them as part of the new Cherry Blossom Kingdom.

Itomimizu

The announcer and commentator of the Davy Back Fight events. Also part of Foxy the Silver Fox's crew. His name means tubifex worm, leading to many fans referring to him as simply 'Tubifex'.

Jesus Burgess

A member of Blackbeard's pirate crew. The Stern Handler and a fighter of the crew. He claims himself a champion because he stands on top of buildings and challenges random people to fights. Both his name and face mask are Spanish in origin.

Johnny and Yosaku

File:Ajoandyoa.jpg
Johnny (left) and Yosaku (right).

Johnny and Yosaku are old friends and former bounty hunting partners of Roronoa Zoro. They first appear during the Baratie arc and stay in the story until the end of the Arlong arc, both times helping out the Straw Hats. They arrive on the scene after Usopp and Luffy unknowingly shoot at the tiny island they're on for target practice. The partners had to stop because Yosaku was suffering from scurvy, but Nami was able to diagnose and treat him.

Johnny and Yosaku are very close to each other and go way back. According to the anime, they met Zoro after he helped save them from a bounty hunt gone wrong. After that, they followed Zoro loyally until he left them under fine circumstances. Johnny tends to be slightly more honorable and Yosaku is more of a realist--but both are downright silly together.

The two have a habit of adding a "brother" or "sister" prefix to whomever they are talking to; this derives from the two addressing others with the "aniki" (male) or "aneki" (female) suffix in the Japanese version. For example, Zoro is "Brother Zoro" (Zoro-aniki), and Nami is "Sister Nami" (Nami-aneki).

The kanji on Johnny's left cheek translates to 'sea'. He supposedly wears it because his hero--a bounty hunter that saved his childhood home from bandits--had the same kanji on his outfit.

In episode 44 of the Anime they decide to go back to bounty hunting, and are seen giving their farewells to the Straw-Hat crew in Cocoyashi village. However, this was not seen in the English Anime, as the entire Episode 44 was cut from the episode list.

Jolly of the Cresent Moon

An old villain who was cut from the final version of One Piece. Another villain who was cut was a nameless person who used magic (which is not found in the final version of One Piece) and may be a later version of Jolly. Smoker encounters him in Loguetown, under the assumption that Jolly is Luffy, or that Jolly and his crew are part of Luffy's. Smoker then encounters Luffy afterward, giving him directions to the execution platform.

Kamakiri

One of the Shandoran warriors that fought to take Upperyard from Eneru. He used a big sickle as a weapon and lost to Eneru in the survival game.

Kappa

Kappa is a young Alabasta child who wanted to join the Rebellion against the king; however, Kohza refused to let him join because he was so young. Kappa later fell upon the secret of Baroque Works and learned that the king was framed. Daz Bones and Miss Doublefinger attacked him to keep him quiet. Igaram later finds him, and Kappa soon tells all of Alabasta about what was really going on. It was his eyewitness that officially ended the war.

Kapoty

Kapoty is a Fish-Man who belongs to Foxy the Silver Fox's pirate crew. He participates in the Donut race with Porche and Monda against the Straw Hat Pirates, during the Davy Back Fight. He is a swordfish fish-man who uses Fishman karate, including a karate chop that can split the ocean.

Karoo

Karoo (カルー Karū), also spelled "Carue," is Vivi's pet spot-billed duck, a fast-footed riding bird (one of the fastest modes of transportation available in Alabasta). His role during Vivi's time with the Straw Hat Pirates is mostly that of comic relief, although he does relay valuable information to Chopper from time to time, and saves Vivi from Mr. 2 Bon Clay in Alabasta. His name comes from the Japanese word "karugamo," which means "spot-billed duck."

Kaya

File:Agexxnzdsdsooa.jpg
Kaya listening to one of Usopp's stories.

Kaya is a rich girl who gets an inheritance after her parents died. Kaya becomes sickly, and her servant Klahadore (Kurahadol in the Japanese anime) often tends to her. (Klahadore was found three years earlier by her father, practically dead on their doorstep. Kaya's father took pity and offered the man a job.) Secretly, the town liar--Usopp--climbs a tree outside her window and tells her tall tales that make her laugh and feel better. However, Klahadore is very disapproving of this and eventually kicks Usopp out and makes Kaya believe that he is a bad influence.

One day, Usopp listens in on a conversation between Klahadore and Django, a hypnotist. Klahadore is really Captain Kuro and reveals that he plans to kill Kaya for her money--the last three years he has just been toying with the young woman. Usopp tries to warn Kaya about the plot, but Kaya believes that he is lying; she rebukes him when he insists that he is telling the truth.

Kaya is later informed of the truth by Merry, another servant of hers. Kaya confronts Kuro during a battle between Kuro and his men and Monkey D. Luffy, Usopp, Nami, and Zoro. Kuro reveals that he tried to kill Merry. Kaya aims a gun at Kuro, but she drops it and cries after Kuro talks about how he was publicly at her side and how much he wants to kill her. Usopp tells his "pirate crew" (in reality a group of children who lie along with Usopp) named "Usopp's Pirates" (known as the Veggie Pirates in the English anime) to protect Kaya. The members, Carrot, Onion, and Pepper (Ninjin, Tamanegi, and Piman in the Japanese version), flee with Kaya to the forest. Django chases after them and attacks the group. When the children try to sneak up on Django, he attacks them and threatens to kill them. Kaya threatens to kill herself unless the children are kept alive. As she has not yet signed a will that states that Kuro is to get Kaya's worth when she dies, Django would be in trouble if she kills herself at this point, so he agrees to leave the children alone. In the English version of the anime, this scene was changed. In the scene in question in the English dub, Kaya tries to use Django's chakrams against him, but the chakrams will not let her use them.

The children pretend to be knocked out when Django forces Kaya to sign the will. Right before Django is able to slice her throat apart, Usopp's pirates ram him with a shovel. After Django knocks them away, Usopp and Zoro appear. Zoro slices off a branch with his sword, while Usopp hits Django with his Secret Technique Shooting Star attack, saving Kaya's life.

After the incident, Kaya gives the Merry Go (Going Merry in the Japanese version) to Luffy and his group of pirates as gratitude for saving her life. Instilled with a new sense of health and determination, Kaya decided then that she would study to become a doctor one day, and hopefully help others in need as Usopp once helped her.

King Cobra

The King of Arabasta and Princess Nefertari Vivi's father. He cares deeply for his kingdom and people, despite the fact that they are rebelling against him. He will also not hesitate to look into the girl's bathroom...

His name was changed to Nebra for the English version of the anime.

Koby

See: Navy (One Piece): Koby.

Kohza

Kohza is Princess Vivi's childhood friend and childhood leader of the Suna Suna (Sand Sand) Clan. Eleven years earlier, when both he and Vivi were five years old, Kohza went into the palace without his father Toto, to beg King Cobra to save his oasis hometown Yuba. Alabasta was in the middle of a drought and Yuba was drying up; Kohza's father told him a king can do anything, so he asked the king to send rain. Unfortunately, the king informed Kohza that he did not have it in his power to do that. At that point, Toto rushed in and scolded Kohza for sneaking in without his notice. Cobra excused them and asked them to live in Alabasta; Toto agreed, but Kohza rejected it, and went off crying. He bumped into Vivi, who insulted him and called him a crybaby. The two subsequently got into a fight. Igaram, the Captain of the Royal Guard, was infuriated by this and tried to kill Kohza. The King stopped him. Toto almost committed suicide to atone for this, but Cobra hand-chopped the two to calm them down and informed them that it was only a kiddy fight. Vivi and Kohza went outside; the boys supported Kohza while the girls supported Vivi. We didn't know the outcome of the fight, but in the end Kohza made her a sub-leader for the Suna-Suna clan and they became friends.

Later, some thugs began to harass Vivi, and wanted to kidnap her. Kohza and the Suna-Suna clan defended Vivi and told her to run. They tried to stop the thugs but were outmatched, and almost all of the clan was wounded. Vivi ran into the ruins as the crazed thugs chased her, and Kohza followed. When one of the thugs found her, Kohza jumped in. One of the thugs pulled out a knife and stabbed Kohza near the left eye, giving him a permanent scar. Kohza, still bleeding, managed to knock out the thug, but the other thugs almost kidnapped Vivi. Luckily, Cobra and Igaram came to the rescue just in time to kick the thugs down. Chaka and Pell, the two bodyguards, showed up and wondered why the king was so far from his palace. Kohza and the other members of the Suna-Suna Clan were taken to the palace for medical treatment, and Kohza developed a friendship with Chaka.

Eight years later, another drought struck Alabasta, this time caused by Dance Powder, which steals rain from other clouds. This incident was known as the Dance Powder Scandal. It started in Erumalu: some carriers were bringing the bags of Dance Powder to Alabasta, but the cart wheel was broken and the bags fell off and ripped open, exposing the illegal substance. When people asked what it was, one carrier lied to them that the king had ordered them to transport it, and thus the King was blamed for the incident. When the rebellion against the King gained momentum, Kohza took its place at its head, little realizing that the drought was actually the work of Crocodile.

Though he headed the assault on the Royal Palace, he helped stop the rebellion once he realized what was really going on. Though gravely wounded in the battle, he recovered and helped his father Toto rebuild the city of Yuba.

Kohza was last seen at Ukkari Hot Spring, owned and operated by his uncle Goro, along with Eneru's ex-High Priest Gedatsu.

Kokoro

Kokoro is the main conductor of the Sea Train, Puffing Tom, at the station just outside of Water Seven. She has a granddaughter named Chimney, who accompanies her everywhere. Kokoro is a heavy drinker, and speaks with a mild speech impediment that gives her dialogue a distinctive ring. Kokoro was once the "lovely" secretary of Tom, and a matronly figure to his two apprentices, Iceburg and Franky. It was she who revealed to the Straw Hat Pirates, Franky Family, and Galley-La Company foremen the existence of a prototype Sea Train, and she was also responsible for driving the prototype, called "Rocketman," as it sped on its way towards Enies Lobby. Her facial features make it look as if she is perpetually smiling regardless of her actual emotions. Her body shape, along with her strange smile, makes her look like a frog.

Conis

File:Bscap14fff9.jpg
"Conis" or "Konis"

Conis is a citizen of Skypiea who befriends Luffy and his crew after their arrival. She greets the Straw-Hats once they reach the island and introduces them to her peoples' customs. She is Pagaya's daughter and owner of a cloud fox, Suu. At first glance, Sanji thinks that she is an angel and predictably tries to woo her. Thus she becomes an important character in the Skypiea arc because of her interaction with the Straw Hat pirates. Once it is discovered that the crew has not paid Skypiea's exorbitant toll, however, she regretfully reports them to their "god" Enel, following the mandatory commands that he had placed upon her people. She makes up for her actions, however, by guiding the Going Merry through Upper Yard, warning her people of Enel's attack, and helping the Straw Hats back down to earth after they had defeated Enel.

Kuina

File:111kuina.jpg
Kuina and her sword Wado Ichimonji.

Kuina (クイナ) was the childhood friend of Roronoa Zoro. She was the daughter of the sword master of a dojo, the reason why Zoro developed the Santōryu technique, and why he treasures one of his swords, the Wado Ichimonji, more than his others. In the English anime, the Wado Ichimonji is just "Wado". When Zoro was young, he challenged every dojo he came across and claimed their signs (in Japan, the sign signifies the dojo is to be respected). When he came across Kuina and her family's dojo, he finally met his match.

Zoro fought Kuina regularly, but found that in 2001 fights he could never beat her. Kuina, after realizing that Zoro would soon pass her in skill and strength became discouraged, at which Zoro told her that it was his goal to be as good as her, and together they promised that one of them would become the greatest swordsman in the world. However after she made a vow with Zoro, she fell down the stairs, while trying to get a sharpening block (no doubt to resharpen her katana after her and Zoro's duel) and died (in the English anime she was injured by bullies, and could never fight again). Zoro asked her father for the honor of taking the Wadō Ichimonji with him, and with this Zoro promised to fulfil their shared dream of becoming the greatest swordsman to fruition in order to honor Kuina.

The Naval officer Tashigi bears a strong resemblance to Kuina (both in appearance and sword style), to the point where it makes Zoro extremely uncomfortable around her. However, they are not believed to have any greater connection than that.

She is voiced by Machiko Toyoshima in the anime.

Doctor Kureha

Doctor Kureha is the sole remaining doctor on Drum Island. Because of her eccentric treatment of patients (whom she will readily injure if they do not follow her orders), along with her reclusive nature, she is often called a "witch." However, she is a legitimate practitioner of medicine, and has kept herself healthy and fit at nearly 140 years old (a "young 99 and a half" in the dub version). She considers herself a beautiful virgin flower, dresses in a style more suited to women one-sixth her age, and cannot stand being called "old" or a "hag" (which usually ends up in her punching or kicking the offender across the room). Kureha seems to have a drinking habit, judging by the bottle of umeshu (bug juice in the English dub anime) she always keeps close at hand, though she may consider this part of the regimen that keeps up her (relative) youth.

Dr. Kureha had an odd relationship with Dr. Hiruluk, seeming to enjoy the camaraderie of a fellow "doctor", but dismissing most of his ideas as those of a quack. When she realized that Hiruluk was dying, she agreed (reluctantly) to his last request: to train Tony Tony Chopper in medicine. During the time since Hiruluk's death, she trained Chopper in everything she knew, and was fairly impressed by the young reindeer's skill (though she rarely, if ever, let on to this fact). Knowing that Chopper would do well to gain real-world experience, Kureha helped make up his mind (by forbidding him from it) to leave the island with the Straw Hat Pirates. Standing on the ramparts of Drum Castle, she gave her wayward student a tearful send off of gigantic proportions, setting off the "cure" that Dr. Hiruluk envisioned for the island: pink "cherry blossom" snowflakes falling from the sky to warm the island's frosted heart.

Attacks

  • Doctor Stop! - Her one and only official "attack" per say and only used on her patients. Whenever she sees a patient about to do something she believes might conpromise her medical treatments or interrupt their recovery process she 'stops' them by any means necessary whether it's pinning them down with her body or stomping them down into the ground. The only problem is that her stopping methods often do more damage then the patient would have sustained had she let them go.

Kuroobi

Kuroobi is a stingray-type fish-man, and part of Arlong's crew. Kuroobi is one of the strictest members in his crew and has always been wary of Nami's supposed allegiance to Arlong. Kuroobi practices "Fish-Man Karate" to fight his opponents. During the battle with the Straw Hats in the Arlong arc, he fights against Sanji whom he nearly defeats when the cook goes underwater to try and save Luffy. As a Fish-Man, Kuroobi has an advantage underwater. However, Sanji manages to force him up to dry land by blowing air into his gills and then promptly beats him into submission with his kicks.

Kuromarimo

One of Wapol's henchmen who appears in the Drum Island arc. He fights using the large afros on his fists, and sports a large afro on his head, and three small ones on his beard. He has the ability to do many tricks with said afros, from ejecting spikes from them to using them to constrict opponents.

With regards to his name, "kuro" means "black," and "marimo" is a kind of algae that forms into round balls due to the action of the tides. So in essence, "Kuromarimo" is a way of referring to his hairstyle.

Attacks

  • Eleki-Marimo (Electric Marimo) - Kurmarimo throws an afro shaped hairball at his opponent that sticks to the opponent with a strong static cling. While the afros themselves aren't that dangerous they do burn quite well and make great targets for Chess' Checkmate attack.

Laboon

Laboon is an extremely large whale (of comparable or greater size than the monsters in Calm Belt), native to West Blue, whom the Straw Hat Pirates encounter immediately after entering Grand Line. Fifty years earlier, Laboon had been left by Reverse Mountain by a group of pirates who had befriended him. Since his species travels in pods, he had forged a powerful bond of friendship with these pirates, and he patiently waited for them at Grand Line's entrace. His caretaker is a doctor named Crocus, who normally mans the Lighthouse that introduces travelers into Grand Line.

Crocus revealed to the Straw Hat Pirates that Laboon's friends effectively abandon him by fleeing Grand Line through an alternative path than the entrance at Reverse Mountain. It is unknown whether these pirates are alive or dead. The old doctor has cared for Laboon ever since his friends left him. Although Laboon knows the truth about his friends, he refuses to admit to himself that they are gone. Laboon has many scars on his head from slamming into Reverse Mountain, for he believes he can destroy the continent and return to West Blue.

Monkey D. Luffy, in an effort to give Laboon a renewed sense of hope, picks a fight with the whale by jamming the Merry Go's mast into his head. After the battle (which was effectively a draw), Luffy promises to Laboon that he will return to see him, under the guise of wanting a rematch. As a sign of this, Luffy paints the Strawhat Jolly Roger on Laboon's head, commenting that the insignia will wash away if Laboon hits Reverse Mountain further. The Strawhats depart, leaving behind two important friends.

Originally, in the Japanese manga and Anime, the appearance of Laboon is also the introduction of Mr. 9 and Miss. Wednesday, two Frontier Agents of Baroque Works who are responsbile for bringing the Straw Hat Pirates to Whisky Peak (Misty Peak in the English dub). However, this brief encounter was deemed to be too controversial and violent by 4Kids for American audiences, so Laboon was passed off as an iceberg that was effectively destroyed by Monkey D. Luffy.

This missing "arc" was also significant in it was originally how Nami came to have a Log Pose, though this was also written around in the English anime.

Lafitte

A member of Blackbeard's pirate crew. Lafitte joined, unnanounced and uninvited, at the meeting of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (Shichibukai) to determine the replacement for Sir Crocodile. He used to be a policeman, but he became a pirate after being exiled from the police force for being excessively violent and cruel. He is incredibly pale and sickly looking, yet is very stealthy and tap-dances while he walks. His name may have been inspired by Jean Lafitte, a famous real-life pirate.

Laki

A Shandian teenage girl. She is Aisa's big sister. Also participate on the survival game. She uses a gun as weapon, although loses to Eneru very soon.

Lucky Roux

File:Aardockaaa1oo.jpg
Lucky Roux or Lucky Roo.

The fat member of Red-Haired Shanks pirate crew, always seen eating a rack of meat. Lucky is also the first person to actually kill someone in One Piece and sets the stage for the series; a pirate's life is a dangerous one. Despite his size, he is referred to in the anime as the fastest man in the world (which was made apparent when he appeared out of seemingly nowhere and shot the bandit). Incidentally, a roux is a sauce or soup base used in French and Creole dishes.

Makino

Makino is the bartender from the hometown of Monkey D. Luffy, Fuschia Village. She's a very kind person, and was a close friend of Shanks, his crew, and Luffy. Makino appeared to be a very prominent figure in Fuschia Village.

Masira

Known as the "Salvage King", Masira is the head of a simian salvage operation near Jaya Island, known as the Saruyama Alliance He is also the brother to Shōjō and a surrogate son of Montblanc Cricket. He comes into the story during the Jaya arc after a huge ship fell from the sky and into the ocean, and it is here where he first meets the Straw Hats. But a sea monster and "giants" appearing in the ocean interrupts them and he winds up on the Going Merry ship after they escape, but he quickly kicked off, literaly. After the Straw-Hats meet Cricket, Masira and Shōjō (whom they run into a while later) act a bit more friendly towards them and help modify the Going Merry so it can travel to Skypiea.

Mayor (Woop Slap)

The mayor from Luffy's town. He was the first person to stick up for Luffy during his tussle with Higuma the Bear. He also complained about Luffy's dream of becoming a pirate, saying that would bring shame to the village.

According to the One Piece Blue/Red databook, his real name is Woop Slap

McKinley

Captain of the White Berets (a police force in Skypeia), he tried to arrest the Straw Hat Pirates when they first arrived in Skypeia. He is very devoted to Eneru, until it is revealed that Eneru planned to destroy Skypeia with his Devil Fruit powers. McKinley, along with the rest of the White Berets, then left Eneru's side and chose to help Conis evacuate the Skypeian people.

Merry

The second butler and care giver of Kaya. He has horns growing out of his head! He was attacked by Kuro but survived and managed to tell Kaya of Kuro's true intentions. Monda

The Star Shark from Foxy's pirates, he assist with Porche and Kapoty in a donut race, his job was pulling the "Cutie wagon" across the water

Mohji and Richie

File:Mohji.jpg
Mohji the Lion Tamer

Mohji (モ-ジ) is the first mate of Buggy's Crew. Quite pompous and at times silly, Mohji has the ability to control any animal he wishes (or so he says. He yet to prove it in the series outside of his lion). He uses this power to keep a lion named Richie as his pet, usually opting to use him in battle rather than fight himself. He is, however, fast and agile, and very skilled with a whip.

In his first appearance, Mohji was sent by Buggy to capture Roronoa Zoro. However, Monkey D. Luffy got in his way, who eventually defeated Mohji after he burned down a pet-food shop that belonged to a recently deceased man and his still-living dog.

After Buggy's defeat Mohji and Cabaji fought over leadership of the group. They were equally matched, and fought for several hours. The battle ended when a sleep-walking Richie knocked them both unconscious, taking over leadership himself. However, Richie and the pirates were kidnapped by a cannibalistic group, but saved by Buggy, Alvida, Mohji, and Cabaji.

Mohji later participated in the attack on Loguetown. It was his job to burn down the Straw-Hat's boat, which he failed to do as soon as it started to rain. Nami and Usopp found him and Richie, but as soon as Mohji sent Richie to attack, Usopp used an egg to distract the lion. The Marines showed up, and started shooting at everyone. Mohji was able to dodge the bullets and flee the scene with the rest of Buggy's group.

Much later, Mohji reappeared with the group as they travel in the Grand Line and find a mysterious man named Ace. He was also in the TV Special that featured the One Piece characters as ninjas, and appeared in several video games. Every time Mohji appears in the series for an arc, his hairstyle changes. During the Buggy arc, his hair was shaped like a teddy bear; the Loguetown arc had him wearing a pink helmet with bunny ears sticking out; and when the group makes it into the Grand Line, his hair is shaped like a lion's mane.

Momoo

Momoo is a giant "sea cow" (literally) that was brought from the Grand Line by Arlong's crew. It was he that destroyed the Gosa section of Coco Village (Cocoyashi Village in the Japanese versions). However when he encounters Luffy, Sanji and Yosaku's boat, he is promptly beaten, and used to tow their boat to the island. Later, during the battle at Arlong Park, he called upon by Hatchan (his caregiver) to the fight the Straw Hats. Despite memories of his first defeat, he does as told, only to be used in the Gum-Gum Pinwheel, an attack by Luffy that takes out most of Arlong's forces.

Montblanc Cricket

Montblanc Cricket is an inhabitant of Jaya Island, living in a small home behind the façade of a castle. Due to the (false) story about his ancestor Montblanc Norland, he is looked down upon and has become bitter to the point that he hates his ancestor. To that end, he aims to prove that the city of gold existed by diving into the ocean day in, day out, searching for any proof of it. He is later joined by Masira and Shōjō, two fans of the fairy tale who would become his surrogate sons. The Straw Hat Pirates soon come to him for more information on the "Island in the Sky," and how to reach it. However, Bellamy the Hyena comes soon afterward and steals all of Cricket's hard earned artifacts that he found in the ocean. Luffy gets them back, however, and Cricket, Masira, and Shōjō modify the Merry Go so it can travel in the sky. Near the end of the Skypiea arc, Cricket hears the ringing of the golden bell (courtesy of Luffy), proving that Skypiea and the gold city really do exist. Thanking the Straw Hats and relieved that they are all right in the sky, he, Masira, and Shōjō begin to think of a new dream to pursue.

==Montblanc Norland==

File:Montblanc Norland.JPG
Montblanc "Liar" Norland.

In the present day of the series, Montblanc Norland is regarded in a North Blue fairy tale as a trickster and a liar who made up the story of a gold city on Jaya Island. He stood by his story even up till his execution.

But 400 years ago, he was an explorer who found the island of Jaya by hearing the ringing of a golden bell located there. This bell was regarded as a holy object by the native Shandora tribe of Jaya. Norland and his crew became friends with the tribe, especially the Shandoran warrior Calgara, and with their help discovered a city of gold on the island. After he returned to his home island Lyneel, he told the king about his expedition. The king then ordered Norland to take him to the city of gold. Once they arrived on the island, however, the city and its people had disappeared. The king, furious, thought Norland was playing a trick on him and thus sentenced him to death. Furthermore, the king even framed Norland by having one of his subjects act as member of Norland's crew, falsely testifying against Norland. In the end, with his crew watching helplessly, Norland is left tearfully wondering what happened to his native friends and the golden city as he is killed.

The true reason for the city's disappearance, though unknown to Norland, was due to an underwater geyser called the Knock Up Stream. This powerful geyser shot a portion of the island up into the sky, where it remained suspended. Norland's claims are finally proven to be the truth when Luffy rings the golden bell in Skypiea, which can be heard below on Jaya Island. The fairly tale may remain, but to his descendant Montblanc Cricket and his friends, he is vindicated after 400 years of shame.

Mozu and Kiwi

File:MozuandKiwi.jpg
Mozu and Kiwi

Also known as the Square Sisters due to their square-like hairstyle. They are part of the Franky Family and are very loyal to Franky (even going so far as to call him aniki, "brother"). When CP9 invades their hideout, they are knocked down by Kalifa for not letting them in. Later when the Straw Hats chase after the sea train, Puffing Tom, with the Rocketman. Mozu and Kiwi along with the rest of the Franky family, accompany them to them to the government headquarters, Enies Lobby, as Franky was captured by CP9. Once there they help hold off the naval marines to allow the Straw Hats go on ahead and try to rescue Franky and Nico Robin. They often walk sideways in high winds due to the fact that they are blown back.

Nico Olvia

Nico Olvia (ニコ・オルビア Niko Orubia) was the mother of Nico Robin. She was an archaeologist from the island of Ohara, who worked with a team of scholars in the island's "Tree of Knowledge" in the outlawed study of Poneglyphs. Her pursuit of this forbidden source of knowledge proved disastrous in her life. 4 years before the death of Gold Roger, She left her 2-year-old daughter at Ohara to set sail with 33 other scholars, only to see them all die at the hands of the Navy, and to be captured herself. Though she later escaped (with the help of Jaguar D. Saul who didn't like the way the Navy punished them just for reading Poneglyphs) and set out for home in a commandeered Naval Battleship, the World Government had already deduced that Ohara was the team's home port and dispatched the secret police force CP9 to wipe out the "criminal" researchers. Oliva manages to make it to the Tree of Knowledge and warns her fellow scholars of the incoming danger, then goes to confront Spandine but is subduded and rounded up with the rest of the scholars back at the tree where she is reunited with her daughter. She at first claim Robin isn't her daughter to keep her safe, but breaks down when Robin calls out to her. The CP9 let Oliva go to die by the Buster Call while she embraces Robin one more time before Saul arrives and asks him to take Robin off the island. She then helps Clover and the other scholars throw books from the tree into the ocean so future generations can find then and know what really happen. Afterwards, they all stay in the Tree of Knowledge as it burns around, Olvia regretting that she didn't leave any parting words for Robin as a mother as Ohara is destroyed.

Nojiko

File:Nojiko.jpg
Nojiko.

Nojiko is the adoptive sister of Nami (the two aren't related but were raised together by Belle-Mère). She plays a major part in the Arlong arc as she reveals Nami's past to the Straw Hats and helps rescue Luffy with the help of Genzo after Luffy is thrown into the ocean by Arlong with his feet stuck in a block of cement. Her right arm is covered in tattoos, which she got to help Nami not to feel ashamed of her tattoo of Arlong's pirate logo. After trying to stop Nami from attacking Captain Nezumi, a Naval officer who tries to take the money Nami raised for her deal with Arlong, Nojiko was shot by him in the back. However, she survived. In the manga, she gave her bracelet to Nami.

Nola

Nola is a giant snake sea king that lives with the Shandians in Jaya before and after it got knocked into the sky by the Knock Up Stream. At first she was nothing more then a little normal sized snake and named after Montblanc Norland in honor of the explorer (whom she was also friends with). After the Knock Up Stream incident and many years go by, Nola had grown to her current gigantic size. She unknowingly took part in the survival game sent by Eneru and is one of the few who manages to reach Upper Yard, which during her trip up there he accidentally eats Luffy (who at first thinks her stomach for a cave), Nami, Aisa and Gan Fall but eventually spits them out. During the climax where Luffy needed to reach Eneru's ship by knocking down the Giant Jack (a giant beanstalk), she helps the heroes by ramming into it, weakening the beanstalk enough for Wiper to give the final blow with his Impact dial. The people of Skypeia call her the "King of the Sky".

Oimo and Kaashii

'Oimo and Kaashii are the two giants that guard the front gate of Enies Lobby. They fight against the Franky Family, Straw Hat Pirates, and Galley-La foremen as soon as the three groups invade the island. Kaashii falls first against the combined effort of the group and Oimo is defeated when Rocketman, the prototype Sea Train, jumps the gate and crashes into him. The two are left as the protagonists press forward. However, Usopp (still disguised as Sogeking), who had been accidentally left behind, hears them lament their tragic existence: They joined and worked for the Government for 50 years only because they thought the leaders of their clan were being held captive in prison. Oimo and Kaashii were promised that by serving the government, they would be released. Their leaders were none other than Dorry and Broggy, whom the Straw Hats had met during the Little Garden arc. When Usopp realized this, he told the two the real truth and how he had met them. Angered at being deceived for 50 years, Oimo and Kaashii switched sides and swore vengeance upon the Government and Naval forces that had kept them in the dark for so long. They arrive just in time to save the Franky Family from being overwhelmed by the maries when Yokozuna gets knocked out as well as take over for him in guarding the door to the inner courthouse, keeping the marines out. But not before flinging Sogeking up to the rooftop to rejoin the Straw Hats.

Currently they, the Franky Family and Gallery-La were somehow overtaken by the Marines and tied up. Making the situation even worse is that the Buster Call (see Terms) was declared on the island. While the Marine and Government agents flee to escape, they are still tied down and are at the mercy of being annilated along with the island.

Pandaman

Pandaman is a joke character created by the author, Eiichirō Oda, whose appearance is that of a muscle bound figure with a panda face for a head (whether this is a mask or his real face remains to be seen). He makes numerous background appearances throughout the series for the viewer to try and spot. He is also a playable character in One Piece Grand Battle 2 for the Playstation. Pandaman is first spotted while Luffy is fighting Don Krieg. He is later spotted a few panels (referring to the manga) after Buggy is struck by lightning while trying to decapitate Luffy. Pandaman was originally for the comic selection of the new superhero contest. He originated from Tibet and age is unknown. He his 6" 6 and weighs 270 lbs. His superhero strength: After eating bamboo, power 3,300,000. Before meals power is still 3,300,000. His mortal blow techniques: S.P.D-- Bamboo Leaves Panda Drop, and Giant Panda Deathstock. His Explantation: Abandoned in a bamboo thicket as an infant, Panda Man was raised by Giant Pandas. He is a demon superhero who resolved to become strong because when he told people he had seen Kaguyahime, they didn't believe him and picked on him. (Kaguyahime was a princess who was found inside a bamboo stump. According to Japanesse legends.)

Patty

Patty is one of the cooks of the Baratie, who doesn't always see eye to eye with Sanji. He, along with Carne, play a major role in helping defend the restaurant from Don Krieg.

Patty physically resembles Popeye, though he has a much larger build thus looking like Popeye's rival Bluto. He has a very business-minded attitude towards customers; those who pay get good and friendly service. Those that don't get the boot. However, he tends to unknowingly insult his customers when he greets them.

  • Meatball of Doom an attack Patty uses to defeat tough pirates, using a lobster shaped bazooka, he shoots a huge exploding cannonball at the offender. Doesn't even hurt Don Krief though.

In the 4Kids dub, Patty has an Irish accent.

Pagaya

Conis's father and a brilliant inventor from Skypiea who fixes the waver Nami rides. Pagaya was thought dead as Enel attacked him while he was helping an injured member of the Royal Guard, who had just revealed Enel's plans to destroy Skypeia. But he resurfaces later, alive and well. He helps the Straw Hat Pirates despite the fact that they were labeled as criminals for not paying their toll fee.

Pearl

Don Krieg's second mate, known as Pearl the Iron Wall. A towering man, Pearl's ensemble includes wearing two iron plates covering his front and backside, as well as two smaller plates with large pearls embedded in them for strong, blunt attacks. Said to have been raised in a jungle. He has a personal bounty of 6 million belli. Pearl is noted to start panicking if he is struck and injured directly, protecting himself by causing friction sparks to ignite his body with a defensive layer of flames. This unusual tactic comes into play when Kreig's pirates attempt to capture the Baratie, when Pearl fights against Sanji and Luffy. He is initially (and accidentally) knocked out, but soon recovers and thrashes Sanji around (as Gin was holding Zeff hostage). Gin, however, finishes Pearl himself by shattering his iron plate shielding, claiming he reserved the right to kill Sanji himself. In the English dub, he has a "surfer dude" accent.

Peepley Lulu

File:Lulu1.jpg
Peepley LuLu

One of the Galley-La loyal shipwrights as well as a friend of Paulie. One of his traits being a stuck up strand of hair that he pushes down constently only for it to appear somewhere else (even on somebody else's person). He helps attack Luffy and Nami after they were framed by CP9 and knocked out during the raid on the Galley-La headquarters. He, along with Paulie and Tilestone, later sneak onboard the Sea Train, Rocketman, to chase after the Puffing Tom headed for the govt. headquarters, Enies Lobby, where he is told the truth about the missing Galley-La people being their enemy. Once on Enies Lobby, he later helps hold off the naval marines along with the rest of Galley-La so the Straw Hats can reach Nico Robin faster.

Pell

Pell is one of the commanders of the Alabastan guard and the strongest fighter in Alabasta. He ate the Tori Tori Fruit "Model: Falcon" (Tweet Tweet Fruit in the English dub) and thus can transform into a falcon, and has earned him the kickname "Peregrine Falcon Pell" due to his bird powers. The fruit is apparently one of five that have been discovered that give the user the ability to fly. Since the fruit is a Zoan type, he has 3 types of transformations meaning that he can turn into a falcon or a man/falcon hybrid, as well as maintain his natural human form.

He fights against Miss All-Sunday aka Nico Robin but is easily defeated. After the fight he helps save Luffy and carries him to Alubarna. He there helped the other Straw Hat Pirates search for Crocodile's bomb, which he carries into the sky to save the city, and was thought by everyone to be dead, although he did manage to survive, and has since been seen in the "Chapter Title Mini-Arc" Gedatsu's Accidental Blue-Sea Life.

During the Alabasta Arc, Sir Crocodile had set up a massive bomb to blow up the capital city Alubarna. Princess Nefertari Vivi and the Straw Hats managed to find the bomb but couldn't disarm it. Pell sacrificed himself by carrying the bomb high into the sky where it exploded harmlessly. However, near the end of the Alabasta arc, a shop owner is calling to a person who left his hat that looked supiciously like Pell. Pell was seen alive and well later on in the series when Kohza's uncle and ex-Priest Gadestsu opened up a tunnel from Alabasta to a hot spring resort.

Attacks

  • Tobizune (Flying Talon) - Pell takes flight in his half human/half falcon form, swoops down on his opponent, and attacks with the bird talons of his hands, when using this attack Pell flies so fast that he appears to be invisible.

Pickles

Second in size only to Big Pan, Pickles is the huge, two-sword wielding member of Foxy the Silver Fox's pirate crew. He, along with Foxy's other pirates, takes part in the Davy Back Fight events held on Long Ring Long Land. He participates in the Groggy ring event, along with the aforementioned Big Pan and Hamburg. He is beaten by Zoro when he uses his swordless dragon twister technique.

Porche

A member of Foxy the Silver Fox's pirate crew. An Idol in the crews. She participate in the Donut Race. She is very loyal to Foxy, but also has a huge obsession with Chopper since he's so cute. Her weapon is a baton-like weapon that shoots shurikens covered with flowers and shoots out a purple gas that causes those hit by it to "blank out", leaving them helpless.

Rika

A little girl living in Shell Town who helps Zoro by offering him onigiri (cookies in the English anime) but he refuses and tells her to go away. Helmeppo then walks in and takes them for himself but then spits them out because the rice balls were sweetened with sugar (the cookies have bits of eggshell in the English anime). Helmeppo orders the naval marine standing behind him to throw her out but is caught by Monkey D. Luffy.

Luffy going to see Zoro again and is asked pick up the rice balls and feeds them to Zoro who sends his thanks to Rika. After Luffy and Koby walk her home she explains why Zoro was imprisoned.

Rockstar

File:Aarockstar1oo.jpg
Rockstar.

A newer member of Red-Haired Shanks pirate crew. Shanks sent him to deliver a message to Whitebeard, which the pirate captain promptly ripped up, going along with Shanks' prediction anyway. Even so, Rockstar wanted to fight Whitebeard to reclaim his honor, but Shanks told him it was no big deal and to pull back.

Rockstar has only appeared in one anime episode so far. Even though little is known about him, it can be assumed he is quite powerful since his bounty is so high. Together with the info that he is a new member it could mean that many of Shanks' nameless members could also have high bounties, maybe a little hint about how big Shanks' power could be.

Rockstar's character and personality is possibly a joke referring to old rockstars who frequently try to see if people remember them. When he arrives on Whitebeard's ship, he asks some of Whitebeard's crew if anyone remembered him from his solo days. Despite his high bounty, all who he asked replied with a surprising (or unsurprising) "no."

Current bounty: 94 million berries

Roji

Roji was Nico Robin's arrogant and cruel aunt on the island of Ohara. Roji's husband was Nico Olvia's brother and was the only caretaker who was kind to Robin. When Olvia left to study history, her brother took Robin in, to Roji's dismay. Roji proved callous towards Robin and always threatened to hit her if she did not stop crying. However, Roji's husband intervened on Robin's behalf. Roji left stale bread and jam for Robin when she went out and gave her many chores. After Robin met Saul, she took all the jam and bread to give to him, making Roji scream in anger. She dies, presumably, when Ohara is completely decimated by the buster call.

Roshio the Executioner

A pirate who was said to have a bounty of 42 Millon Berries on him. Roshio is seen playing card with Bellamy the Hyena in the starting chapters of the Jaya arc. While he wins fairly, Bellamy challenges then kills him by knocking him out of the top floor of the building they were in with his Devil Fruit powers.

Sarquiss

The first mate of Bellamy the Hyena, with a bounty of 38,000,000 for his head. Just like his captain, he strongly believes that a new age was coming and laughs at anyone who mentioned their dreams. He is often seen with a women on his side, Lily. He is nick-named 'Big Knife', due to his large dagger. After Luffy easily defeated Bellamy however, they were paid a visit by Donquixote Doflamingo (the former captain of Bellamy's crew) who, with his power, supposedly forced Sarquiss to kill Bellamy.

Attacks

  • Big Chop - Sarquiss goes into a vertical spin and uses his trademark 'Big Knife' to turn himself into a human buzzsaw.

Jaguar D. Saul

Jaguar D. Saul (ハグワール・D・サウロ Haguwāru D Sauro) was a giant who washed onto the shores of the island of Ohara, home of the 8-year-old Nico Robin. Robin befriended him, in her first real instance of camaraderie and true friendship, while he built a raft to leave the island. He had a strange laugh that goes "Dereshi", and he told Robin that he didn't care that others made fun of him for it. He was a peaceful giant, and told Robin that he was not from Elbaf (unlike Dorry, Brogy, Kaashii, and Oimo), and he claimed that everyone in his family bore the initial "D", though he was not sure what it meant. Whether this has some connection to Monkey D. Luffy or any other character with the "D" initial has not yet been revealed.

When Saul learned that he was on the island of Ohara, he panicked and warned Robin of the incoming danger of the approaching Navy ships. He was also well aware of Nico Olvia, Robin's mother, when it is revealed he was originally with the Navy before arriving on Ohara, a Vice Admiral in fact. However, after seeing the harsh methods the Navy uses against Olvia's team of archaeologists just for studying Poneglyphs (which is forbidden by the world government). He abandons his rank since he does not sees it as "justice" and helps Olvia escape. He later comes to take Robin, at the request of her mother, off the island as the Buster Call begins to destroy Ohara. He manages to make it to shore and fends off some of the Navy ships to help Robin make it to the evacuation ship. But confronts Ao Kiji (called Kuzan during this time and a vice admiral as well) who, while respecting Saul's justice, must do his duty to the government. Saul is then frozen while trying to get away with Robin, but not before encourging Robin to escape and try to find her nakama. Saul presumably died as Ohara was destroyed. Kuzan let Robin escape, but warned her that he would arrest her the next time they met.

Siam and Butchie

Siam and Butchie (シャム、ブチ Shamu and Buchi), also known as the Meowban Brothers (Nyaban Brothers), are two members of the Black Cat pirates. The two try to act cowardly when first approaching an opponent, but show their true colors once their opponent's guard is down. They fight against Zoro during Kuro's attempt to raid Syrup Village (Usopp's hometown), but are ultimately defeated. Butchie is fat and Siam is the one with green hair and a hunched back.

Shoujou

He is the brother to Masira and a surrogate son of Montblac Cricket. Of whom both were fans of the fairy tale concerning his ancestor, Montblanc Norland. Like his brother, he meets the Straw-Hats on bad terms and forced them to retreat when he used a sound attack that almost destroyed the Merry Go. After the Straw-Hats meet Cricket, he and Masira become more friendly with them and help modify the Merry Go so it can travel to Skypiea.

Attacks

  • Soundwave, Havoc Sonar - Shoujou makes a special noise into his microphone that sends out destructive soundwaves causing pain to anyone and damaging anything nearby.

Sodom and Gomorrah

Sodom and Gomorrah are the two gigantic King Bulls (sea horses in the most literal sense) owned by the Franky Family, which take them to Enies Lobby. Once there, the Franky Family and Straw Hat Pirates use them navigate their way through the island and past any Naval or Government forces that try to stop them. Unfortunately, Sodom is felled by a mortar shell (but tearfully begs the others, through Chopper's interpretation, to go on without him), and Gomorrah is taken down soon afterward by cannon fire. However Gomorrah, fueled by memories of Franky taking him and Sodom in and looking out for the two, manages to summon up his last ounce of strength and crashes through the Enies Lobby courthouse's courtyard before finally passing out from the pain. It is unknown what the ultimate fate of these two creatures will be (Sodom's heart had been heavily wounded and Gomorrah has been blinded), nor how the pirates and ship dismantlers will make it to the Judiciary Tower where Robin and Franky are being held without their assistance. They are named for the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, which (according to the Bible) were famously corrupt. Found by the Franky family in the stomach of a Sea King (sea monster) they were eating. We now know thanks to Chopper's translations that the family was too full to eat the sea bulls too.

Suu

Suu is Conis's cloud fox during the Skypiea arc.

Terracotta

Igaram's wife, and the Royal Head Chef who appears very late in the Alabasta arc. Terracotta also looks amost identical to Igaram (which is very creepy in itself, as Zoro remarks: "A couple can only look SO much alike...!!!").

Tilestone

File:Tilestone.jpg
Tilestone

The cabinet/caulking/sailmaking foreman of the Galley-La company, he, along with Pauly and Lulu, help the Straw Hat Pirates and Franky Family invade Enies Lobby. He has a habit of (very loudly) yelling everything that he says.

Tom

Tom was a powerful pufferfish-type Fish-Man, known as the most skilled shipwright in the world. Tom is responsible for building the Oro Jackson, Gold Roger's ship, which got him into trouble with the Navy and the World Government. Although building a ship for pirates is generally not considered a crime (as the shipwrights have no control over who mans their ships), a special case had to be made for Tom because his client was the King of the Pirates.

To escape what would be a cruel and unnecessary fate, Tom made an agreement with the judge: given 10 years, he could save his dying home city of Water 7, by constructing an unprecedented Sea Train which could traverse even the roughest of weather to deliver and receive goods and services. Thus, Tom's trial went into recess for a decade, to reconvene after the Sea Train's completion.

However, Tom was also the holder of a blueprint for Pluton, an ancient warship of power so great that its name survived the passage of time (or perhaps the cataclysm) that blotted out most of the world's history. This is the same Pluton that Crocodile was seeking in Alabasta.

Tom's possession of the blueprint led other factions of the Government to seek it: of note, a man named Spandam working for Cipher Pol No. 5, a secret governmental organization not overseen by the Navy. Spandam, in an effort to secure the blueprints, hired people to steal and man the ships of Tom's student, Cutty Flam, to attack Water Seven at the resumption of Tom's trial. Though he knew Franky to be innocent, Tom took responsibility for the actions of his pupil's ships, thus reinstating his original sentence. Tom was escorted on the train he built to Enies Lobby, where he was allegedly executed shortly thereafter.

Tonjit

One of the nomads that live on Long Ring Long Land, he was trapped on a pair of very tall stilts for ten years, causing him to be separated from the rest of the nomads. After the Straw Hat Pirates got him down, he lamented that he couldn't get to the rest of the nomads because of the high tides, until Aokiji appeared and used his Devil Fruit powers to freeze all of the water on the island for a week, allowing Tonjit to ride his horse Shelly across the water in order to meet up with his clan.

Toto

Toto is Kohza's father, and the only man left living in the deserted city of Yuba. He constantly digs for water in order to possibly revive the town, but Sir Crocodile torments him by sending sandstorms to the area every time Toto is about to find water. Despite this however, Toto's strong will kept him going until rain finally fell throughout Alabasta.

Usopp's Pirates

Usopp's Pirates (called the Veggie Pirates in the English anime) comprise three village children who join Usopp in telling lies and other assorted games. They later assist Kaya in her escape when Captain Kuro plans to kill her. The names of the members are Carrot (Ninjin, meaning "Carrot", in the original Japanese), Onion (Tamanegi, meaning Onion), and Pepper (Piman, meaning green pepper).

Van Auger

A member and sharpshooter of Blackbeard's pirate crew. First seen in the Jaya arc shooting down seagulls. It seems he can hit a target without it even realizing it was hit till they down dead after a set of time. Evident when Tony Tony Chopper notices some seagulls in the air that were enjoying their flight then crashed on the deck of the Going Merry (called the Merry Go in the English version) without warning before the Straw Hats reach Jaya. Possibly inspired by Adolphus, the sharpshooter from Baron Munchausen in both appearance and skill.

Wiper

The leader of the Shandians fighting to take Upperyard back from Eneru, he fights with a bazooka. Wiper is very rough around the edges and has always hated both the Skypeians (despite Gan Fall's best efforts to attain peace between the two people during his time as "god") and anybody from the seas. He fought against Luffy during the survival game yet their match ended in stalemate. Later he, along with Nico Robin, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Eneru, and Gan Fall, survive Eneru's survival game, but Eneru defeats Wiper with his Goro Goro powers when Wiper refuses to join him. Wiper uses the Reject Dial, a powerful Dial weapon that causes great damage to both the enemy and the user, to kill Eneru. However, Eneru simply uses his powers to restart his own heart and strikes the Shandian warrior down once more. Later he uses it for a third time that day-he supposedly should have died after the second use-to help the Straw Hats knock over Giant Jack so Luffy can reach Eneru's ship during the climax of the Skypeia Arc. After Eneru's defeat, Wiper sees peace finally come between the Shandians and the Skypeians.

Yama

Yama is the military commander of Eneru's army during the Skypiea arc. He is a large, mountain-shaped man who uses his large body to crush his opponents. During the survival game in Upper Yard, he manages to defeat Genbou, one of the Shandorian warriors. But despite this victory, he soon encounters Nico Robin and angers her by destroying most of ancient ruins of Jaya with his reckless charging. For that, she uses her Hana Hana powers to defeat him.

The name "Yama" comes from the Buddhist god of the same name (pronounced "Enma" in Japanese), continuing the religious theme present among Eneru's forces. However, it is also a pun, because "Yama" means "mountain" in Japanese (hence the character's shape). His attacks all have the word "mountain" somewhere in them.

Yasopp

Yasopp is a member of the Red-haired Pirates along with Red-Haired Shanks, Lucky Roux, Ben Beckman, and Rockstar. He is a gifted sharp-shooter and can shoot the legs off an ant at 100 feet without harming it. He is the father of Usopp. His name is seen spelled as "Yassopp" in the Japanese version of the anime series.

Yokozuna

A giant sumo-wrestling frog, he was a friend to the legendary shipright Tom until Tom's execution. After that, he would always swim through the waters around Water 7, stepping in the way of the Sea Train to try and stop it. This habit caused him to try and stop the Rocket Man while the Straw Hat Pirates, Galley-La Foremen, and Franky Family were travelling towards Enies Lobby, and he ends up helping them in their attempt to get Franky and Nico Robin back. While on Enies Lobby, he is in charge of preventing any government agents from getting into the courthouse, and does well until the Jurors arrive and attack. He is then saved by the giants Oimo and Kaashii, who decide help him guard the courthouse.

Zambai

The leader of the Franky Family during Franky's absence, he helps the Straw Hat Pirates invade the government-controlled island of Enies Lobby. He, Paulie and a handful of Franky Family members had engadged Three-Headed Baskerville in combat but were eventually subdued and apparently defeated.

Zeff

File:Azeffa.jpg
Zeff before he lost his leg

Zeff is a former pirate known as "Red-Shoes" Zeff because of his lethal kicks bathing his legs in his enemies' blood and is also Sanji's mentor. He is currently head chef on the floating restaurant Baratie.

When Sanji was a kitchen boy, the ship he worked on was attacked by Zeff's pirate crew. Sanji had the guts to attack Zeff himself, claiming that he wanted to live in order to find the mythical sea "All Blue," (Great Blue in US TV version) Zeff's own dream as well. During the skirmish, a fierce storm wiped out both Sanji's ship and the pirate ship, nearly drowning Sanji. Zeff went into the water to save the boy because they shared the same dream. In the anime, Zeff's leg caught on debris during the rescue, and he had to cut it off in order to get Sanji and save them both.

After the rescue, they were washed up onto a tall, rocky island by a wave. There was no food on it, and no way to get to the sea and back to land for fish. Unknown to Sanji, Zeff gave all of the food that had washed ashore with them to the young boy and kept none for himself (In the manga, he still had both his legs but cuts off his right leg and eats it to keep himself alive). After eighty or more days with little food they were finally rescued, and Zeff swore that if he made it off the island alive, he would open a restaurant on the sea and serve anyone who was hungry, whether they be naval marine or pirate. Moments after revealing his dream, Zeff and Sanji are rescued by a passing ship.

Years later, Zeff makes good on his promise and opens Baratie, a floating restaurant shaped like a fish, famous for its amazing food and fighting cooks. Even with a peg leg, Zeff's kicks can still kill a man and he passed the art on to Sanji. When Luffy comes to the restaurant and defeats Don Krieg, Zeff encourages Sanji to leave the restaurant to pursue his dream for both their sakes. He also offers to give Luffy his log book that records the days he spent on the Grand Line, but Luffy refuses, saying he wants to create his own adventure and not recreate that of another.

In the manga Zeff has a tendency to call Sanji "Little Eggplant" and Sanji calls him "Crap Geezer" in return. In the English dub of the anime, Zeff has a tendency to call Sanji "String Bean" and in return Sanji calls him "Ol' geezer". In the Filipino dub, Zeff, during their first encounter called Sanji a "bubwit" (mouse); then in the Baratie called him an "uhuging bata" (running-nose kid). Sanji called Zeff a "lokong matanda" (crazy old man).
