The Coat of Arms of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Coat of Arms of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina was adopted on November 5, 1996.

The green background and the golden fleur-de-lys represents the Bosniaks, while the chequy shield represents the Bosnian Croats.

The ten stars arranged in a circle represent the 10 cantons of the Federation, even though there is a great resemblance to the flag of the European Union.

The Federation entity is part of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina which has its own coat of arms (see CoABiH), while the other entity Republika Srpska also has its coat of arms (see CoARS).

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Constitutional Court ruled on March 31, 2006 that the coat of arms is discriminatory to the nation's Serbs, as it only contains the Bosniaks' and Croats' national symbols. The coat of arms must be changed within a time period of six months after the ruling.
