Sylvia Tyson, C.M. (born Sylvia Fricker in Chatham, Ontario, Canada on 19 September 1940), is a singer-songwriter, broadcaster, and guitarist who found early fame in Canada and abroad with her then-husband Ian Tyson in their folk duo Ian and Sylvia.

Sylvia Tyson wrote one of the duo's most memorable songs, "You Were On My Mind". The song was covered by artists The We Five and Crispien St. Peter.

Divorced from Ian and the mother of Clay Tyson, himself a performer, Sylvia has continued her music career in the critically acclaimed all-female folk group Quartette, as well as contributing to the Canadian music scene as a board member of FACTOR and the Juno Awards. She also established an independent record label, Salt Music, in the late 1970s.

Sylvia Tyson was made a Member of The Order of Canada in 1994.

She lives in Toronto and is working on a novel.

Awards and recognition

Sylvia Tyson was first nominated for a Juno Award in 1987 as Country Female Vocalist of the Year. She has not yet won a Juno award, despite seven nominations to date.

The Canadian Music Hall of Fame inducted Ian and Sylvia as a duo in 1992.
