Article Witch - Hunt citation found
Hi, As I was doing research for my history paper, I came across the article from which a quote was used in the Wikipedia 'Witch'Hunt' article. It asked for a citation, but I didn't want to edit it myself for fear of making a mistake. The url is http://www.tangledmoon.org/witchhunt.htm The part you're looking for begins in the middle of the page.
"Consider the case in York, England, as described by Keith Thomas (Religion and the Decline of Magic).
At the height of the Great Hunt (1567-1640) one half of all witchcraft cases brought before church courts were dismissed for lack of evidence. No torture was used, and the accused could clear himself by providing four to eight "compurgators", people who were willing to swear that he wasn't a witch. Only 21% of the cases ended with convictions, and the Church did not impose any kind of corporal or capital punishment. "
This was used in the Wikipedia article under the heading of 'Evidence'.
I hope this helps, and if this reached the wrong person, please pass it on to someone who can help!
Thanks
- Hrm. You should post this on the article's talk page, where someone who knows more about the article can look into it. Essjay (Talk • Connect) 03:24, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Collateral damage from CheckUser block
User talk:Doctor33 has requested that 216.83.121.194 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) be unblocked, which you've blocked for 6 months after a CheckUser investigation. I'm unsure what the policy is for such requests, could you unblock or deny the request as appropriate? Thanks. --Sam Blanning(talk) 18:39, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'll check into it. Essjay (Talk • Connect) 03:24, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
It's been used exclusively by Krabs502 sockpuppets. I have no objection to unblocking, but only if someone is willing to watch Doctor33 for Krabs-style vandalism. Essjay (Talk • Connect) 03:29, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Mediation of Opus Deii
Hi, I am a current Medcom nominee. I was told on my talk page that I should inform you of which case I would like to try mediating. So, if it's alright with the Mediation Committee and with the involved parties of Opus Deii, I would like to try to mediate that case. Armedblowfish (talk|contribs) 16:31, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- Fine with me! Make a note on it's mediation subpage that you're taking it, and contact the parties. If you need any help, let me know. Essjay (Talk • Connect) 03:24, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! A question: since it is customary to ask the involved parties if they would like public or private mediation, if someone wants private mediation, should the mediation committee be cc'ed (to evaluate me, of course)? Armedblowfish (talk|mail|contribs) 09:09, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've never had that one come up, but yes, that would be a good idea. If that happens, I'll give you an email that you can CC. Essjay (Talk • Connect) 09:12, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you! I'll let you know if I have any other questions. : ) Armedblowfish (talk|mail|contribs) 09:17, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Investigator\Contactor
How can I become either one of those? Is there a page that can explain this further? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yonatanh (talk • contribs) 00:12, June 14, 2006 (UTC)
- First, be sure to sign your posts on talk pages with ~~~~, so we know who you are. Second, have a look at Wikipedia:Abuse reports/Guide to abuse reports. Finally, read through the talk page of WP:ABUSE, to familiarize yourself with what exactly is done. I'd suggest offering to help on a current case at first, especially if you aren't really familiar with Wikipedia and how things work. (I notice you're a fairly new contributor, and it takes a while to get up to speed on how things work around here.) Right now, I'm not really active with the abuse reports, as I have a lot of other tasks to see to, but I'm still working in a coordinating/supporting role, so if I can be of help finding someone you can partner with, let me know.
