Tuesday, 2 November is Election Day in the United States. If you are a resident of the State of Illinois, I urge you to vote for Alan Keyes for the U.S. Senate — the pro-life candidate. In the presidential election, I am supporting independent candidate Ralph Nader as a write-in vote. It is not a wasted vote!
"Go forth and set the world on fire!"
Gerald Farinas
Gerald Farinas was born in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Queen's Medical Center on Friday, 21 January 1983. He comes from an eclectic heritage — son of a hotel executive and hospitality steward and grandson of an Evangelical Christian minister, Mormon missionary, California stevedore and tobacco farmer. When it comes to ancestry, Gerald's family lines traverse the globe.
Education
Gerald attended public schools as he grew up on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. He attended Mayor Joseph J. Fern Elementary School in historic Kalihi and later Princess Miriam K. Likelike Elementary School in the Palama subdivision. With career successes, the family moved to Salt Lake in 1993 and Gerald attended Aliamanu Elementary and Intermediate Schools. In 1997, Gerald entered Moanalua High School from which he graduated with the Millennial Class of 2001.
University
After graduating with the National Forensics League, National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll Society and several citations of citizenship and merit from the United States Navy through the Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific, Gerald left the Hawaiian Islands and settled in Chicago, Illinois. There, he was accepted to Loyola University Chicago where he began studying towards dual bachelor's degrees in sociology and international studies. His ambitions include working in public advocacy and journalism.
Journalism
Gerald began his professional writing career with brief positions as a feature reporter for the Hawaii Catholic Herald, contributing writer for the Honolulu Advertiser and later as managing editor of Chicago-based magazine Diminuendo. Gerald gained most of his experiences in preparation for his professional assignments first, as editor of his newspaper and yearbook at Aliamanu Intermediate School. Then, Gerald devoted much of his high school days as editor of Na Hoku O Moanalua.
Politics
Gerald entered into active political work when in the Summer of 2004, he was invited to join former U.S. presidential candidate Alan Keyes and his family — as a family friend — to prepare the launch of a surprise campaign for the U.S. Senate from Illinois. The race between Republican Alan Keyes and Democrat Barack Obama would be the first U.S. Senate race in history between two Black Americans.
