KKDM, known as "Kiss 107 FM," is a contemporary hit radio station based in Des Moines, Iowa. The station broadcasts at 107.5 MHz. It is owned by Clear Channel Communications.

History

KKDM signed on in 1995 as an alternative rock station owned by local businessman, Rich Eychaner, who also owned a local movie rental chain. The station was successful and had a large following among young adults at the time. After Mr. Eychaner sold the station to Clear Channel in 1999, the company swapped the formats of KCCQ and KKDM, resulting in KKDM becoming "Kiss 107" and KCCQ becoming "Channel Q".

Since then KKDM has established themselves as a success story in Clear Channel's Des Moines cluster, placing in the top 5 in the market's Arbitron, despite competition from Adult Top 40 rival KSTZ, an ill-fated decision to flip KDRB to Rhythmic Top 40 (and in the proccess taking away their listeners), and criticism from many in Top 40 circles for being a clone of KIIS/Los Angeles by adopting the KISS-FM format and using voice-tracked cyber-jocks (which they still use in some dayparts). However they have moved away from that as KKDM evolved into more of a local-oriented station complete with local talent and more interaction with the listeners in the market.
