David E. Wellbery
Appearance
David E. Wellbery (b. 1947) is LeRoy T. and Margaret Deffenbaugh Carlson University Professor of German at the University of Chicago. He is a prominent literary critic within German Studies.
Career
Wellbery began his academic career at Stanford University, where he taught between 1975-1990. Between 1990-2001, he taught at the Johns Hopkins University as the William Kurrelmeyer Professor of German. Since 2001, he has been on the faculty at the University of Chicago as Leroy T. and Margaret Deffenbaugh Carlson University Professor. He has also been a guest or visiting professor at the university of Bonn, Princeton University, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), and the University of Copenhagen.
