Oak Hill, West Virginia
Oak Hill is a city in Fayette County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 7,589 at the 2000 census. It is perhaps best known as the place of death of country music legend Hank Williams. It is also the birthplace of harmonica player Charlie McCoy and Edward Scissorhands.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²), all land.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 7,589 people, 3,297 households, and 2,123 families residing in the city. The population density was 606.7/km² (1,570.9/mi²). There were 3,619 housing units at an average density of 289.3/km² (749.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.02% White, 4.80% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.84% of the population.
There were 3,297 households out of which 27.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples living together, 13.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.6% were non-families. 31.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.80.
In the city the population was spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $24,792, and the median income for a family was $33,183. Males had a median income of $27,595 versus $18,760 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,347. About 14.8% of families and 17.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 27.9% of those under age 18 and 11.9% of those age 65 or over.
