Lady Kale is one of the main villain characters on the animated television series Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders. She is a sorceress who dedicated her life to seeking revenge upon her former master Merlin (wizard).

Biography

Lady Kale, Princess of Avalon, is hungry for power and firmly believes that she, not Anya, should be ruling Avalon. Merlin is responsible for not granting her the Sun Stone which would have given her the power to become the next queen, as he judged her unworthy -- instead, he gave that precious jewel to her sister. After Kale tried to take the throne away from Anya, she was banished from the Crystal Palace.

When Kale discovered a new enchanted jewel called the Dark Stone, she has vowed to master the "Wild magic" of Avalon and take control of the kingdom. She tuned the jewel and used it to communicate with two dweasles, Rufis and Twigg, whom she forces to find jewels for her to use in her rise to power.

Costumes

Lady Kale's original princess costume was a red jumpsuit-type outfit (with a big gloves, under knee-boots, and a relatively short cape). After gaining Dark Stone, it was magically transformed into an also red jewel armor (this time with a long cape, above-knee boots, a jewel on chest, and a dragon-shaped crown-like helmet); this became her primary costume for the rest of the series.

Occasionally, Kale was seen wearing a queen's ceremonial robe in several episodes, and for the Fashion Fever episode she donned a revealing spider-themed dress; also in Revenge of the Dark Stone episode she wears a burka-like wear in order to disguise herself.

Powers

Her jewel, the shimmering purple Dark Stone, brings out evil powers; when angry Kale calls upon Dark Stone, purple rays of light shoot from the stone. The more enchanted jewels Kale that finds and tunes, the more stronger her powers will become.

Kale's mean of transport is a dragon wagon powered by the huge red winged dragon called Grimm. Grimm transports Lady Kale to and from her castle in the Thornwoods; unfortunately to them, Kale is always hot on the Jewel Riders' trail thanks to Grimm's high speed and agility.

Storyline

In the first season, Lady Kale spends her time searching for the Crown Jewels in order to establish power and to gain control of the throne. She also seeks to capture a key to the Merlin's jewel box, and destroy Merlin himself once and for all. After all seven Crown Jewels were found, Lady Kale was defeated and banished to Wild Magic.

For the second season, the premise of the show was altered slightly; instead of Crown Jewels, the Jewel Riders sought out the ancient Wizard Jewels, with an extra adversary to deal with besides Kale - while it was believed for a while that Kale was lost forever, in reality she merely drifted there until she was rescued and freed by another captive of the Wild Magic, the evil sorceress Morgana Le Fay of Arthurian folklore, of whom she becomes an uneasy ally and apprentice. Morgana can only make illusions of herself in Avalon, so she sends Kale to find the lost jewels of all the ancient wizards; with all seven wizard Jewels Morgana can return to Avalon.

Kale meets her end in the series finale, transformed into a stone-like statue in the showdown with Princess Gwenevere.
