The cucumber is the edible fruit of the cucumber plant Cucumis sativus, which belongs to the gourd family Cucurbitaceae. It is usually green-skinned and roughly cylindrical, about 30 cm long and 4 cm in diameter, with tapered ends. Cucumbers for pickling are generally shorter and thicker.
