Electronic articles are scientific articles that can be accessed via electronic transmission.

Electronic articles can be found as online versions of articles that appeared in printed journals, online-only journals, online archives, working paper archives from universities, government agencies, private and public think tanks and institutes and private websites. In many scientific areas, specialized search enginess for on- or offline content exist.

Most commercial sites are subscription-based, or allow pay-per-view access. Most working paper archives and articles on personal homepages are free. Many universities allow access to electronic journals to their students and faculty. The most common formats of transmission are HTML, Pdf and Postscript.
