Falcon Beach is a current Canadian television show, filmed at Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba, Canada, produced in Canada for U.S. and Canadian markets. It originally aired in 2005 as a movie on Global in Canada. It was produced as a TV series for Global and ABC Family in 2006.
It is unique among Canadian TV series in that the producers film two versions of each episode. The first is for Canada and uses Canadian geographic references and terminology. The second version is done for the United States and uses American geographic references and terminology.
Set in the fictional resort town of Falcon Beach, Manitoba, (New England for U.S. viewers) the program is a teen drama similar in style to The O.C.
After a stellar ratings debut, numbers for the program have slipped after Global has moved the program around across its schedule multiple times. The program has now been moved to Saturday nights, a dumping ground for most networks due to significantly lower viewership numbers (compared to the rest of the week).
Despite the declining ratings, Global has renewed the program for an additional 13-episodes, which has began production Summer 2006. [1]
Falcon Beach (Season 1) currently airs first run episodes in the U.S. on ABC Family throughout the summer. Global has decided to air Season 1 over again in Canada hoping the American exposure will reach their audience.
In the U.S., the show is on Monday nights at 9 Eastern on ABC Family. It opened in early June to respectable ratings. [2]
