Bernadette Cozart is a professional gardener for the Department of Parks and Recreation of New York City and an ecofeminist who founded the Greening of Harlem Coalition in 1989 to help people to regenerate and take responsibility for their own neighbourhoods, transform rundown vacant lots in Harlem into flower gardens and to restore existing green spaces.
