Template:Spoiler The universe of the anime and manga series Naruto is a home to a wide array of fictional characters. Names of Naruto characters are in Japanese order, with the family name before the given name. The English manga uses the Japanese naming order, while the English anime orders the names in the Western order, with the given name before the family name.

Names of many characters in Naruto are puns, mythical and historical references and the like. The characters themselves often borrow a bit from the story behind the name.

Summons

All characters (by alphabetical order)

Aburame Clan

(油女一族, Aburame Ichizoku, "Aburame family") Perhaps the most mysterious clan of Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf). Not much is known about this clan, except that they use insects as weapons. The insects are often shown to live in symbiosis with the body of the ninja.

Trivia

  • "Aburame" means "oil woman", and it is similar to "aburamushi" (油虫), the word for cockroaches.

Akimichi Clan

(秋道一族, Akimichi Ichizoku, "Akimichi family") The Akimichi clan is one of the four noble clans of Konohagakure no Sato. They are able to convert calories into chakra, which they then use in their hidden technique, Baika no Jutsu and its various related jutsu.

The Akimichi clan seems to have a special relationship with the Nara family and Yamanaka family. For two generations, members of these three families have formed an "InoShikaChō trio". Named after the first part of the names of the members. The Akimichi members are the Chō in InoShikaChō.

Trivia

  • The name "Akimichi" means "the road in the season of autumn". "Aki" means "autumn", which is a time of harvest. "Michi" means street, which is where vendors sell food.
  • "Ino", "Shika" and "Chō" are the names of three cards needed for a highly prized trick of "Inoshikachō" in the Hanafuda.

Ami

Age: ?
Height: ?
Weight: ?
Birthday: ?
Blood Type: ?
Voice actor: Stephanie Sheh
Affiliation: Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf)

Ami is a young girl that attended the same Ninja Academy as Haruno Sakura and Ino when they were young. During one of the lessons, where the girls were being taught about flower arrangements, she bullies Sakura. However, Ino, who was picking flowers with Sakura, defends Sakura and throws a bunch of what she tells Ami are poisonous flowers in her mouth, telling her that she mistook her mouth for a vase. Ami panics and runs away, terrified- but in actuality, only the roots of the plant Ino used are poisonous.

Aoi

Name: Aoi
Age:
Rank: Jounin
Height:
Weight:
Birthday:
Blood Type:
Registration #:
Seiyu:
Voice actor:
Affiliation: Missing-nin from Konoha, now in Ame
Signature Ability:

Aoi is the diabolical ninja who was hired by the Wagarashi clan. His job was to stop Idate, a runner for the Wasabi clan, from winning the Todori Burning Fire Race. The story behind Aoi is much deeper though as he was a previously a Konoha Jounin ninja.

Aoi betrayed Konoha by having his student, Idate, steal two special treasures from Konoha under the false pretense of his student becoming a Chuunin. These treasures were the Raijin Sword and a special scroll of forbidden Jutsu. After this event, Aoi defected to Amegakure but was caught up by Idate's brother, Morino Ibiki, who then was caught by the Village Hidden in the Rain and tortured to translate the scroll. After this incident, Aoi remained with Ame performing various oddjobs and demeaning tasks that other ninja wouldn't bother with.

All of Aoi's skills involve his umbrella and needles, though what sets him apart from all the ninjas is his use of the special Raijin, that he stole from Konoha. His skills seem pretty basic, even for a Jounin.

Densetsu no Bakakyodai

(伝説のバカ兄弟, Densetsu no Bakakyōdai, "Legendary Stupid Brothers") Also known as the Fūjin-Raijin Kyōdai (風神・雷神兄弟, "Fuujin-Raijin Brothers"). The two brothers have apparently had run ins with Tsunade before and are thusly quite terrified of her (they bow at her feet when she arrives and knocks some sense into them). Though their strength is extreme she is still able to flick them across an area as easily as she does Naruto.

Fūjin

Fujin
Fujin

Fūjin (風神) is a character from a side story of the Anime and as such is not considered canon by most fans. 風神 literally translates to "Wind God." He was placed in prison with his brother after killing his comrades for food during a mission. He and his brother are both extremely strong but extremely stupid. Both go into mad rages when they are not given food and attack whoever is in their way of getting food. Mizuki tricks the brothers into helping him escape prison with the promise of meeting a person who will give them snacks every day.

Raijin

They were known as "dog warriors" and worshipped Inu ("Dog"), a deity representing the zodiac sign of the dog. The name "Inuzuka" also originates from Hakkenden, a novel about a dog samurai.
  • The (known) Inuzuka members are all named after a part of the body of a dog (nose, claw, fang), while their dogs are named after colors (red, gray, black).

Isaribi

File:Isaribi.JPG
Isaribi

Name: Isaribi
Age: ?
Affiliation: Land of the Sea later Konoha Village

Isaribi was a human test subject under the control of Amachi who in turn used to work for Orichimaru. The test was meant to give shinobi the ability to breath and operate underwater. Isaribi was one of the first test subjects, and was not the final version. She was sent back to the Land of the Sea to spy on the ships leaving port. Due to her bandages which were used to cover the permanently scaled parts of her body, she was consistently attacked and her property vandalized by the villagers. They feared and hated her as she was the only person to return from being "Spirited Away". Isaribi was promised that she would be returned to human form if she complied with Amachi's orders. To that end she attacked ships and killed a number of sailors, Naruto was able to make her come to her senses, where it was then revealed that Amachi never had a cure for her condition. She Returned with Naruto to Konoha Village after Amachi's defeat. Isaribi only appears in the anime version of Naruto.

(奈良家, Nara ke, "Nara Family") This family is known for their manipulation of shadows and tending of deer. They have kept a book with medicine preparations and effects for generations. Among the medicine described in this book are the secret pills used by the Akimichi clan. The men from this family are very lazy and tend to be attracted to overbearing women.

Yugito

Yugito transforming into the nekomata

Name: Yugito (ユギト)
Age: ?
Rank: Unknown (probably Jōnin)
Height: ?
Weight: ?
Birthday: ?
Blood Type: ?
Registration #: ?
Affiliation: Kumogakure (Hidden Cloud )

The female Cloud kunoichi who is the demon vessel of the Nibi no Nekomata (two-tailed demon cat). She claimed to be the second strongest ninja in her village (Likely acknowledging Raikage as the strongest), although that apparently did not make her stronger than Akatsuki. She has been knocked out and captured by the Akatsuki, despite turning into her nekomata form to fight them, though they have not extracted her demon yet. As like other jinchūrikis, who have some sort of physical characteristic that is the mark of their demon (Naruto's whisker marks, Gaara's black tanuki-like outlines around his eyes), her eyes are slanted in a cat-like way, as the mark of the nekomata. Not much else is known about Yugito.

Trivia

  • The probability of this many people actually not sharing a birthday is less than one in fifteen. (Counting characters whose birthdays are known; had the whole cast of Naruto been known to have different birthdays, the probability would have dropped to less than one in fifty.)
  • When the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors arrived in Japan in the early 1640s, the Japanese invented many variations for it—one of them being Toad, Slug, Snake. The toad can beat the slug, the slug can beat the snake, and the snake can beat the toad. These three animals are, not coincidentally, the summons of the legendary Sannin (Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade). Currently, the game is known in Japan as janken.
