The 1886 UK general election took place from July 1-27, 1886. It saw a major reversal of the results of the 1885 election as the Conservatives, led by Lord Salisbury in coalition with the Unionist wing of the Liberals won an overall majority in the House of Commons, leaving William Gladstone's Liberals supporting Irish Home Rule a distant second.
