Hans Henric von Essen

Count Hans Henrik von Essen (1755 - 1824) was a Swedish soldier and statesman. He was appointed Colonel in 1787, Major General in 1795 and Field Marshal in 1811. He served as the Over-Governor of Stockholm from 1795 to 1797 and as the Governor-General of Pomerania from 1800 to 1809. In his capacity as the Viceroy of Norway, between 1814 and 1816, he also served as the Prime Minister of Norway. In 1816 he was appointed Earl Marshal.
