Rollonfriday
Rollonfriday is an english website designed for and aimed at those involved in the legal profession from law students to qualified solicitors and barristers.
The site was established in 2001 by Matthew Rhodes and Piers Warburton. The two met while solicitors at the London law firm Ashurst (where Warburton still works). The site provides information about job opportunities and pay rates as acts as an alternative to corporate legal recruitment sites.
It contains a topical and irrerverent news section highlighting the more comedic aspects of legal life as well as running off the wall features such as "most glamorous solicitor" showcasing some of the UK's more uniquely featured lawyers.
Over the years the sit has grown in popularity to the extent it is now part of the legal establishment it once lampooned. Several leading UK law firms use it as a means of advertising and its own in house recruitment service is ascknowledged as being succesful.
The highlight of the site is its discussion board. Subject to restrictions posted on the main site such as:
You must not use the discussion boards to display any material which is:-
in contravention of any relevant local, national or international law or which incites or encourages the contravention of any such law
racist, sexist or homophobic
pornographic, obscene, profane or vulgar
defamatory of any person, entity or organisation
abusive, threatening or otherwise likely to be harmful to those persons likely to use the Website
otherwise offensive in the opinion of RollOnFriday Limited
infringing of the rights (including the intellectual property rights) of any person
related to the conduct of a business; or
horrid
The "board" allows posters on it's forum to choose unique usernames. Such users are known as "RoFers", female users sometimes being called "RoFettes".
This Board has grown in popularity over the duration of the site, it's contents sometimes irrerverent and off the wall, often amusing and occasionally obscene. Posters have such names as Flying Wang, sureitsonlyme, Artoo, Othello, Boo, Signor Botti, and perhaps the funniest of all "Lord Shaftington".
Posts debate legal issues, discuss the profession, hammer Tony Blair, and swap details of London life. On occasion they help co-posters with job applications, life crises, and restaurants to eat in.
